Hello, and welcome to the five hundred and sixty-fourth edition of the Fallout Feed. This is Andrew, joined by a flock of my favorite Fallout folks. Tonight I've got Ray. What's up, Ray? Hello, hello. And also Jess. What's going on, Jess?
SPEAKER_01Hey, Andrew. Greets everybody.
SPEAKER_18Tonight on the show, we will start off with a little special feature, a little fun activity before we get into our normal gameplay. And then we got some iguanabits butts. Iguanabuts. What's going on there? We've got some iguanabuts to get into, I guess. And some game. Uh-oh. We've got a Mojave TV lore quiz on the plate. We've just we're throwing all sorts of stuff at you tonight. And then we will round out the show with our normal TV roundtable that we've been doing the last couple weeks. We're watching Fallout, the TV show, season two. Tonight we'll focus on episode number five. I forget what that one is called.
SPEAKER_01The Wrangler.
SPEAKER_18The Wrangler. So uh check in with that on the second half of the show there. So that's been really fun. We'll continue on with Vault Talk. So let's go ahead and roll right into it, see what everybody's getting into. It's been a couple of weeks now since we checked in. So maybe Jess actually has some time to play some Vidigames this time. Jess, do you have any time to play any Vidigames this time?
SPEAKER_01Only a little. Oh I mean, it's been two weeks. So of course I played some, got into some good 76. We had to wrap up the rest of Fosh Knocked. We had, I don't think I even talked about Brat Snatch last episode because that was still coming up last time we recorded, right?
SPEAKER_18Brat snatch? What was that?
SPEAKER_01So that was right after we recorded last time. It was an all-brat weekend in Fallout 76 where all the Robots were wearing the new Brat mask, and they called it Brat Schnack. So we all got the Brat mask dropping, and the Robots were wearing it, and it was a grand old time. By the end of it, I actually got a Pittman from Solior, so thank you, Solior. And I got like three or four of the Bratman masks.
SPEAKER_18What was the thing you said you got from Solior? You got a what?
SPEAKER_01Oh, a Pittman mask.
SPEAKER_18Just Pitman.
SPEAKER_01That was uh another new mask this year. I didn't get a glowing anything. No, not Pikmin.
SPEAKER_18That would be although very colorful blade.
SPEAKER_01Funny you say that because I should add that to the iguana butts, which by the way, Andrew wrote iguana butts. I don't know why he acted surprised. He's the one who wrote it originally. I just kept it. But we get to the iguana butts, we actually have some news on Fallout 76 season coming up with pint-size slasher. So there will be some knife action coming up soon.
SPEAKER_18Some nice butt action later in the show.
SPEAKER_01Yes. So 76 was good. That wrapped up. We had a week off from the events, and then aliens are back with invaders, but nothing new there. I played some 76. A lot of people wrapped up and caught up on the season. I am not, I'm maybe level 34, rank 34 in the season. I'm not doing good. Everybody, like most of our listeners, if they're still playing 76, probably finished two, three weeks ago or a month ago on score occasion, but not I.
SPEAKER_18Uh is this one of the drag your feet until the last two weeks and then whole ass and get finished and then pay for the last two to five levels to it could happen, but y'all know I'm not as invested lately.
SPEAKER_01I'm a little la safe air at the moment. Oh, Cilliar's dropping some fun picks into the chat right now of the Brat Snacked mask for you. Rando got some pictures of that. And then we've got the group of us. There's like five of us together at Foshnacht there. We're all wearing our masks, cooking. So it was great. We actually shared a pick that that the follow true liked where we're using the roasting wiener photo moat while wearing our new wiener masks.
SPEAKER_02The mustard hat is classic.
SPEAKER_01It's hilarious. Yeah, you get a look at that.
SPEAKER_18Is that going on in this picture? Are they all looking down and showing the tops of their wiener heads?
SPEAKER_01No, those we're kneeled and we're cooking our wieners. So we've got wieners on a fork over a campfire. And is that a new that's a photo mode emote from like a year or two ago?
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_18Oh, that's an old one. That's how long I've been playing.
SPEAKER_01Well, it had to pick up the emote too. That's great. And I know this is great for all the audio listeners at home. Besides that, the real game I've been playing the last week and a half or so was Lord of the Rings. So I mentioned that Lord of the Rings Warn the North got a surprise shadow drop a la Oblivion. We got a shadow drop on this game. And I was super psyched because the original game I liked. I'm a big Lord of the Rings fan. You know, it's one of my big fandoms after obviously Fought and Elder Scrolls and stuff. That style of action RPG, which is just it's a classic RPG element. Like not a whole lot of choice and consequence and all that, but just some good dungeon delving, level grinding, getting new gear, fighting enemies, you know, Diablo-esque. Not not quite as much of a loot fest as Borderlands or Diablo, but still a good time in one of my favorite universes. So played a bit of that. I'm I've got maybe seven hours in. So it's still not as much as usual, but it's summer. I will say it does show its age more than I expected. Going back to it, it was 2011 or 2012. So it's the same time as Skyrim, same time as Kingdoms of Amala Reckoning, Mass Effect 2 and 3, shortly after New Vegas. So it kind of was overshadowed by all these great games. And going back to it, I'm like, yeah, this does feel more like 2005-6. So I can see why it wasn't the biggest game at the time. It it is older, but I'm still having a lot of fun with it. I mean, hey, you guys, I've got an eagle helping me. Unlike the movie, you know, or the books, I should say, where they could be like, why didn't they just call in the Eagles? I can actually summon an Eagle.
SPEAKER_18Summon the Eagles.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, my Eagle's name is Bellaran.
SPEAKER_18End your adventure way before you need to.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. No, he's a boss, though. I can call him in every once in a while if I'm in a pickle. He comes from afar and his talents come out and he destroys whatever boss I'm fighting. Good time. That's great. Yeah. So I like I enjoy that part. And it's just fun to be back in that game. Those are really the two things I've played: 76 and Lord of the Rings the last two weeks. And of course, watching a little Fallout TV show.
SPEAKER_18What was the subtitle of that Lord of the Rings game?
SPEAKER_01War in the North.
SPEAKER_18War in the North.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so the story of it, not to go too deep down the lore rabbit hole, but essentially it's another adventure contemporaneous with the actual fellowship's adventures. So the game starts a few days before the Fellowship of the Ring does. And you actually start arriving in Brie after being routed with your group near Fornos. You meet with Strider and he lets you know what's happening that he's waiting for this hobbit coming through that has something that he's protected, but he needs the enemy's eyes off of him. So your crew, the three of you as adventurers.
SPEAKER_18Oh, we're the bait.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. We're distracting the orc army and people around Fornost and up north in those ruins so that they can slip through undetected. And so, and as the story goes through and it continues, I just finished the first act and I think there's three total. As the story goes through, the fellowship is progressing and you're progressing. I like that style of storytelling. I think it's a good way when you have something as legendary as Lord of the Rings, or say Fallout. Like if they were to do a Fallout TV show, I like the way they're doing it, but the other way they could do it is stuff that happens at the same time and just occasionally touches or interlocks. I like that style. It makes sense, right? Let's see what some of the side characters were doing. Like while these people are off saving the world, what were you doing back at home? And maybe you were helping too. So I I like those kind of stories.
SPEAKER_18And Solior says no more spyro.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, I got up to Toasty. Like I did the whole first worlds, uh like the 10 10 worlds there or whatever, beat 10 bosses, went to Toasty, but I haven't continued Spyro much since then.
SPEAKER_18No more purple buddy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I played a few indie games too, but nothing that people need to hear about.
SPEAKER_18You're finding cat games. I've never actually seen one. It's not like cat Doku or anything like that, is it?
SPEAKER_01Or is it I do have Kat Doku? I do have a Sudoku.
SPEAKER_18I saw it look very cute, and I was like, oh my gosh, that one almost got me to play that one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they're more like where's Waldo? Essentially like black and white, or I did do a a cat game the last two weeks. I won't deny it, but I've done other stuff too. Some gamers score boosting platformers and stuff, you know?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I mean, essentially all it has to do is it has to be something you can tolerate for 15 minutes.
SPEAKER_18Very cool. All right. Any other games you wanted to mention there, Jess, before I check in and see what Rey has been up to. What's going on, Ray? Do you have a chance to play any Vidge games the last couple weeks? Oh, sure. Just quit and never played again.
SPEAKER_02No. So one of the things that I had not done in Genesis was the bounty hunter faction. And in Genesis, it's a delayed quest. So as soon as you get off your ship in Jemison, there's not that lady standing there and said, Hey, we need to talk. And in Starfield, that became one of my you know fun things to do, kind of like Leaving Preston in the museum is to never talk to her. Not talking to the lady who says, Hey, we need a talk. And you know, I mean she gets annoyed, you know, we're gonna have to talk eventually. But if you ignore her, she shows up in the craziest places.
SPEAKER_00Where have you seen her? Where have you seen her?
SPEAKER_02Well, so every city and if you fast travel someplace into Jemison, she'll be there. So if like if you fast travel to the lodge, she'll be standing right there where you spawn in at the lodge.
SPEAKER_01She just she needs to get your attention, you know? She's got a message for you, your eyes only.
SPEAKER_02But some of the bigger POIs she's showing up at, like the uh civilian outposts.
SPEAKER_01That's crazy. So you land in a civilian outpost on some random planet, and there she is.
SPEAKER_18She tracked you down in outer space.
SPEAKER_02Well, I mean, you know, you gotta give it to her. She's with the uh trackers alliance. So if anybody can track you down, it's gotta be them, right?
SPEAKER_01And her code name is inevitable, right? I don't know that I've paid that close attention. It's something like that. It's something, and basically she just that is she lives up to her name for sure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. In in Genesis, she's one of those tentacle-headed characters. Not of Twilight, but the other one, the one with lots of tentacles.
SPEAKER_18So has anyone's Mora. Has anyone written a mod yet? Be like turn off character, like where she doesn't follow you around the map and stuff.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there's delayed start mods for her. Kind of like you don't want the vampire attacking you too soon as Skyrim or like the dragonborn people showing up right at level 10, give them a little bit longer.
SPEAKER_18Level 10 dragonborn people, little little early. Come on, guys.
SPEAKER_02So in in Genesis, you have to complete five bounty missions. And oh, that's fun. Then you also have a level requirement check that it's all in the in the settings, you can adjust it. But I finally did my five uh bounty missions, which in in vanilla starfield, you know, those are no big deal. You go into a facility, you clean out all the hostiles, and you get to the boss at the back of the facility. But in in Genesis, it's a little trickier thing to try to do at low levels because those most of the characters can one-shot you if you pop your head out of cover for too long. Yeah, so it it definitely took some work to get those those five done. And then you do it's essentially the same quest to to kick off. About the only unique thing is is that instead of Asta, it's girl fragments that you collect to get legendary weapons from the vendor there stash.
SPEAKER_18Well, that's car is owned.
SPEAKER_20But yes.
SPEAKER_02And there's some bounties that have been caught and are in that uh I don't remember what it's carbonite or whatever that was where they had consolos sealed up. So you've got those uh those bricks, you know, standing against the wall while they're waiting to be transported.
SPEAKER_18So I thought carbonite would be a great way to be imprisoned because you're flash frozen, so you have like your awareness is off. You know, you're like basically in a coma. You have no sense of time when you're shut down. So like it's the great the best way to spend imprisonment, right? Carbonite, come on.
SPEAKER_02But you know, that gets in your ears and oh yeah, you'd be digging that out for months.
SPEAKER_01I mean, if it's good enough for some vault dwellers, good enough for Han Solo, right? I mean, he didn't look like he enjoyed it much, though, to be fair.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, you're right. Have you seen the coffee table that is Tan Solo and Carbonite?
SPEAKER_01It's amazing. It is truly amazing.
SPEAKER_18So funny.
SPEAKER_02So but the thing that I've sunk the most time into, so I'm up to about 60 plus hours in Baldur's Gate 3.
SPEAKER_18Oh, wow. Are you loved? No third person killing you.
SPEAKER_02I'm liking it. Well, the third person isn't even the issue. It's the you know, figuring out all the uh mechanics and what you're supposed to be doing, what you're not supposed to be doing.
SPEAKER_18You're not even using a controller, right? You use the keyboard and keyboard, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But my original character had gotten to the point where you know there were essentially three three battles that I needed to be able to complete to get to the next part of the story. And I couldn't get anywhere close to any of them. I was just getting stomped. So I th I figured out that I've gotta be doing something wrong.
SPEAKER_18So I set out to to start over and see if I could figure out you're doing level 50 content at level two again, I think, is what the problem is.
SPEAKER_02Well, but you know, that's usually not any big deal. But I I get the sense that I'm doing level six boss fights with my level four character and not winning.
SPEAKER_18Oh, that's even worse. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh.
SPEAKER_18That's almost assaulting.
SPEAKER_02So I've definitely, you know, I figured some things out. So I'm doing a lot of saving and restarting, trying something a little different. I finally figured out that you can separate your team so that everybody doesn't get brought into the battle at the same time. And that helps, you know, get people maneuvered around and stuff. So there's just a lot of things. You know, one of the first things I came across was freeing Lizelle, who's one of the main party characters. I I talked the people who had her captive out of harming her and having them just had them leave, but then I couldn't figure it out how to get her out of the uh cage. So I'm running around looking for the other end of the rope to lower the cage down so she could get out. And I came around the other side and she was gone. I'm like, oh, cool crap. Where is she? Oh wow. And so she disappeared. But then later on, she was in the fight against me with the other one of the oh Git Yankees.
SPEAKER_01Oh wait, so you didn't save her after the cage thing when you came across her in the early. So I couldn't figure out how to get her down. Right. Yeah, I remember that took me a while to figure out what to click too. So then you left to look for a switch. When you came back, she was gone. So the game figured out you just abandoned her. So now when you got to the point, so you're deeper in, and she's with a group of Gith Yankee. And this is after you've already done like the Druid's Grove, and have you done like the Goblin Town yet, or no?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so I went in to I went, I tried to do the the actual goblin camp. Yep. And got stonewalled there. And I went to the camp that had all the paladins in it, and that's when I came across the the path that took me to to where the Geth Yankees had taken out a bunch of these paladins.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yes. Near the edge of Act One on the far west side. Yeah, northwest.
SPEAKER_02So she was there.
SPEAKER_01Wow, okay, cool. So were you able to recruit her or was she like very anti-U?
SPEAKER_02No, yeah. She was not, it was not my friend. So so when I restarted and started playing again, this time I killed those two teethlings that were guarding her, and that broke open her cage. Okay. And she came down and then I had recruited her to my side.
SPEAKER_01Nice. Yeah, I'm thinking the first time I did chase them off or you know, get them to leave and let her out, but I don't remember how. I just remember that I did have a moment of confusion or two there as well. But okay, so this is second character playthrough now. Yeah. This is the maybe for real one.
SPEAKER_02Uh I don't uh probably not. Okay. But it's definitely one where I'm trying to figure more stuff out. And so the the first character I was all about being peaceful and only fighting if I had to. And you know, that just didn't work. I mean, there were a lot of things where I could talk my way through, but then I couldn't get any further. And so now if it moves, it dies.
SPEAKER_01I mean, there is like there is an area in between these two extremes. But I like that.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so I didn't I didn't kill everybody in the grove. Oh, that's they were mostly non-hostile.
SPEAKER_01So the grove is neat. It's a neat first town you get to. There's a couple of quests to start there. There's the secret room area. There's actually two secret areas there, plus yeah, yeah. There's a lot. Have you met the bard yet?
SPEAKER_02No.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02So there's a bard On the first one I did. He's the guy with the puffy hat, right?
SPEAKER_01Actually, no, I meant Alfira the Bard. So she is a female hefling bard that as you go a little bit deeper into the grove and you do a few quests and they let you to the point where you get to talk to you know the leader, and she's great. You should meet her.
SPEAKER_02But I'll have to keep my eye out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, just something to check on as you progress.
SPEAKER_02But there's so much to learn in the game. So it is. But you know, the one thing I did learn was it also doesn't pay to go too fast.
SPEAKER_01It doesn't, no. It's turn-based and think a lot of thinking. It may have a little less inventory management than Ar Bethesda games, but otherwise it's very much menus and it makes you realize how many systems there are in Arbethesda games, how complicated some systems are. I watched a fun video on provisioners yesterday. And just like, yeah, there really is a lot to the provisioner system that you don't think about. It's neat. Anyway. Digression. But so Baldur's Gate, you're continuing it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, for now. It's you know, it's been keeping my attention. You can at least say you tried.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, you it got you for 60 hours. I'd say it's at least a for now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Although, you know, it's it's not that hard for me to dump that many hours into a game.
SPEAKER_01He's got time to spare, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It's I mean, it's a lot like somebody that would put seven or eight hours into a game in a week. Some core working stiff.
SPEAKER_01I only put like 90 hours into the game myself. Like that's probably all I did over a month or two, yeah.
SPEAKER_18He's skewering us.
SPEAKER_01He's a little bit and I I mean honestly, 80 hours for Ray, it's probably 20 hours for us. Like, let's be reasonable. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And that was over two weeks, so since we missed last week. So that's about all I've been doing.
SPEAKER_18Cool. So I'll do some stuff real quick. Most of my concentration's been Fallout 4. Uh, a couple of weeks ago, I had started a character that was all intelligence and endurance, and any leftover points were just dumped into luck. So I don't have like any strength, perception, or agility, which are ones I would always fall back on. So I'm forcing myself to use endurance. And I always just Pat was always a huge fan of the endurance tree, but he's the only person I knew who really liked the endurance perks, and I would always kind of make fun of him for it. But now that I'm forcing myself down that path, I'm like, oh, these kind of are fun. Like it took, I don't remember, some sort of radioactive one at first, where radiation actually heals you for like slowly over time. It's like actually super damn useful. And and then nuclear physicist, is that what the one it was? And then I said one too. Ray did a character where he had a radiation gun. Right? Do you remember doing that months ago? You said it was a terrible build. Yeah, it was it was a Awful, but I'm thinking if you can use the thing that you like radiate yourself as you're firing the gun as well with the like yeah, ultimately, didn't he do that?
SPEAKER_01Didn't you do that? That's ghoulish.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, and as long as you only fight people, right? It could be fine, but as long as you don't ever fight any ghouls or super mutants or any monsters or any of the exactly only raiders, and you're cool. So I don't know. I've just been running around a little bit trying to make use of those sort of awkward and weird categories for me that I don't normally depend on.
SPEAKER_01That's a great way, even without the random character generator, to just force yourself. You said endurance and intelligence, right?
SPEAKER_18Yeah, those are my two big ones. I hardly ever use those.
SPEAKER_02The most important endurance perk.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_18Cannibal. Cannibal. I was thinking about taking that one, but I hadn't seen many human bad guys yet. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01So like Goals and Sabermutants count.
SPEAKER_18Oh, they do. I definitely can't I definitely can't handle super mutants yet.
SPEAKER_02Like, I'm once once you get to level 19.
SPEAKER_18Oh, is that how level you have to be to actually take it?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, first the first one you can be any level, but that's only gonna be humans.
SPEAKER_20Okay.
SPEAKER_02At level 19, you can take the second level of cannibal and you can eat ghouls and super mutants to restore health. And at level 38, the third level, eating anything drastically increases the amount of health you get.
SPEAKER_18Oh nice.
SPEAKER_01We needed a cannibal expert to explain it.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, so and it's been fun running around, and it really I didn't kind of I kind of didn't realize how much it would affect the character to not have something in agility or perception, you know, because I always fall back on either rifleman or the handheld, the handgun. It's huge.
SPEAKER_01Do you at least have some points in the special, at least like four or five apiece?
SPEAKER_18No. I got nothing. That's I got one one point in everything that I'm not really invested in.
SPEAKER_01Oh wow.
SPEAKER_18So attacking has been bad, but like, you know, I can do gun nut to improve the weapons and stuff with intelligence. And so it's just gonna be a challenge to find uh a good way to to battle, you know. So one thing is I've been doing okay. I can get this character, I started this character like yeah, give me some vans, please. Actually, no, that might help. That ups your perception by two or something, doesn't it? Second level does. Yeah, get vans level two, come on. I was over at Cambridge Polymer Labs because I wanted to try to get that Pizone Nuclear Armor stuff, you know. I don't remember what it did, but I thought it had something to do with radiation, and it has a cool radiation name, so I figured, hey, why not? It'll be fun with the character. The whole playthrough up to that point, I was getting a really weird graphical glitch where anytime there was smoke, fire looked totally normal, but smoke came out as blue squares. Oh, it was just blue squares floating in the sky up and I'm like, oh fuck, what is this? And it happened not immediately, but I noticed it a few hours in. And I was like, oh, that's sort of dumb, but I can probably handle this. After a while, I could not handle it. It looked really dumb to shoot a raider, and you see like the bullet like impact and then look a few blue squares.
SPEAKER_01And it persisted after restart, so next time you play it or whatever.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, so like I thought that I didn't start a mod or take one away weirdly or anything. I wonder why it's doing that. So I was only like 10 to 12 hours in, so I totally restarted and did the same build again. Because I was in doing the the Cambridge Cambridge Polymer Labs, Cambridge Polymer Labs. But one of the canisters that you have to load into the computer, when I would load it into the computer thing for an ID it, it would stay gull, and then it would eliminate the name and say none in brackets, and then it would like eliminate from my inventory. And so I looked it up, and this is evidently a known glitch, and I was like, oh crap, that really sucks. So I was like, well, I'm not that deep into the game. There's this annoying thing, and I really want to do this, so I'm just gonna restart the character again, see if I can fix the blue smoke glitch, and then try this, you know, piezonucleic armor stuff again. And I restarted, loaded up the character, played the probably seven, eight hours it took me to get to the same point again, and then the fucking gold canister disappeared again on me in when I'm doing the Cambridge Polymer Labs quest. So I thought it was just like a random occurrence the first time, but it turns out this must be some sort of chronic bug. I thought it was just like something I did with the the weird blue smoke thing, and I don't know what is going on. I thought I gave it, oh, I'll give it another chance. I'll do it in another. So I kind of restarted to do that quest again in order to get that piece of armor, and it fucking bugged again. I was so pissed. As far as I can tell, it's a bug in the quest that just makes one of the quest items. You know how they're usually protected items that you can't take out of your inventory and stuff? Well, this one you can, and so it's something happens to it where it gets renamed.
SPEAKER_01Is a recurring thing on the effects in the game. I've heard of it happening before, but as a big thing in Fallout 76 on PlayStation, you know how generators put off smoke for a solid two or three years, they were putting off square smoke like that.
SPEAKER_18Oh god, that's so annoying.
SPEAKER_01Really obnoxious looking. Yeah.
SPEAKER_18But anyway, I'm setting up camp down for now at Hangman's Alley, just because it's you know centralized like everybody likes. And I'm thinking about where I'm gonna set up camp and sort of like what direction the game is going. Right now I'm sort of pinned down between the sentient power armor guys and uh roadblock the other direction between something else that kept killing me. So this is my first time encountering. I don't know how long they've been in the game, but those sentient power armor guys are no joke. I think they're harder than like raiders in power armor and stuff. They get they're kind of ghosties. And what would happen when you kill them? Do you get like the power armor frame and this all the pieces it's wearing? I haven't I haven't actually killed it yet.
SPEAKER_01They're from a creation and they are tough, and I haven't done it yet, so I don't know. I assume that you can probably take the armor, but yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Aren't they aren't they from the big empty?
SPEAKER_18Oh, originally that would make sense, right? They had those there, right?
SPEAKER_01So, yeah, I think a sentinel power armor, right?
SPEAKER_18And Sentinel, not sentient, sorry, yeah, Sentinel.
SPEAKER_01And it's from a creation club creation, but I don't know. I haven't done it yet. What's related to the Brotherhood Outcast? So yeah, I mean next time we play for real, I'll see it. But yeah.
SPEAKER_02Well, yeah. Since it's since we call it Sentinel, that changes my uh my estimation of what sentient. I was thinking of the uh skeletons that were in the power armor. Or in their new armor.
SPEAKER_18Maybe I misunderstood. I thought it was just like power armor suits with no people in them running around.
SPEAKER_02No, they were the people were still in 'em, but they died. Oh but the armor, the armor continued to function.
SPEAKER_18That's awesome. And those are the ones at Big MT, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Yeah, those were cool.
SPEAKER_18So they walked their asses all the way to Boston.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, obviously not related.
SPEAKER_18Not a bust of the Sentinel Vertebert that took them over there.
SPEAKER_01Well, to be fair, if it's related to the Brotherhood Outcast, that was originally, you know, from the Splinter Group down to the capital wasteland. So either way, they came a distance.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, they sure did. Wow. Good for them.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, let us know more after you deal with them. Like if you take them out.
SPEAKER_18If I ever can, I might just run away at this point. It's been a tough battle so far.
SPEAKER_01As Creation Club stuff, they're higher levels.
SPEAKER_18So and without the handgun or the rifle boost to give yourself the 20 or 40% damage at this point, early in the game, that is extremely necessary in survival mode. And if I have no attack like boost, I'm just getting my ass handed to myself everywhere I go. So I'm like relying on sneak, but I don't have any agility. I can't invest points into sneak. So I'm just trying to be as quiet as I can while wearing power armor, which is always uh fun.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh. Lopsided character builds really do change.
SPEAKER_18I've been trying to figure out a way to make this work, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so Rando named nailed it. It's the trauma harness.
SPEAKER_18Trauma harness, what's that mean?
SPEAKER_02That's the uh armor that the the skeletons were wearing. In the big MT.
SPEAKER_18In the big MT. Okay. Trauma harness, cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they always made me think of a Doctor Who reference too, with Silence in the Library, where you have skeletons and suits that are still moving.
SPEAKER_18That's the name of my metal band in the 80s.
SPEAKER_01Silence in the Library?
SPEAKER_18Trauma Harness.
SPEAKER_01Trauma harness. Oh my god, that's a perfect name for metal band. Picturing that with lightning letters.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, all the the really aggressively vertical letters that you can't actually read what it says anymore. Alright, guys. Yeah, so that's been my gameplay. Getting frustrated at the the the Cambridge Polymer Labs mainly.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so that's PZO nucleic power armor.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, and what was the effect? I didn't know what it was, I just knew it had something to do with radiation, right?
SPEAKER_02So radiation exposure increases action point refresh speed.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, see, that would be great, actually. That would be really good for that build. So yeah. Too bad it fucking conked out on me twice in a row. Do I want to spend another like seven, eight hours to just prove that it is like actually broken? Or is there something that I could do to like reset the game? I'd reload, I don't know what, to make sure that that would work if I did try it a third time. If I wanted to ensure that that would not happen again, is there a way to do that?
SPEAKER_01We'd have to look it up. And being on Xbox, it's less likely, to be fair.
SPEAKER_18Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And there's nothing, there's no bug section in the wiki.
SPEAKER_18I shouldn't see if there's a mod to fix that. I didn't even think of that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there is bug reports in the uh in the Cambridge location.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's feeling like people have run into bugs on that quest in any number of ways. So this one probably does exist somewhere.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so they say it it it's easy to fix with console commands. Of course it is, of course.
SPEAKER_18I love it, love it, love it, love it. Thank you. Very helpful. Anyway, just reading the wiki. Anyway, the last part of my story there is I invested in the robot, what is it? Robot expert? I don't remember what it's called, but the the one where you can hack robots, which I've also been always dismissed. Like I've played with the you can tame ghouls or animals, the animal friend, stuff like that, but I always just sort of dismiss those perks as yeah, they're kind of fun sometimes, but not incredibly useful. But I was in there at Cambridge Polymer Labs and trying to get out, Molly is a helper in there, a robot. She must not be a Mr. Handy, uh, Miss Nanny Bot, I guess, of some core, but she's very aggressive when you try to leave. She will not let you out. So, in order to leave the first time, just because I was tired of dying over and over and over again, I finally took the robot hacker perk thing, whatever it's called, just so I could shut her the fuck down and walk out of the place. But I figured out after you shut her down, turn on her explosion code, her like destruction, whatever it's called. You let her blow up, and then you can walk back up to her remains that are on the ground and click on them again. And because she's like part of the quest item or whatever, she's still active. So her like broken parts got up and destroyed me. And I had to do it again. I was like, God damn it. Her fucking broken, fiery corpse of broken robot parts somehow just killed me. One-shotted me. Oh, this is the worst. So I ended up taking that just so I could shut her down, blow her up, not interact with her broken parts again, and walk out. And that's how I finally got out of there after it was bugged, and I was pissed. And then Molly trapped me in here. Could you imagine how mad I was after that bugged again? And I tried to walk out, and then Molly just killed me over and over and over. I can't even fuck you, Molly.
SPEAKER_02I'm pretty sure that's the epitome of insult to energy.
SPEAKER_18It was. It was terrible. But anyway, I finally got my my revenge on Molly. She's sitting in a pile of rubble, and it did not kill me this time.
SPEAKER_01Well deserved.
SPEAKER_18Yep, that's that's pretty much where I am. Got to Hangman's Alley, cleared that out, moved Codsworth and Dog Meat down there, did the thing where I loaded them up with all of the stuff that I had been collecting the first like five, ten levels, and then you know, got into build mode, assigned them to Hangman's Alley, then dismissed them, so I didn't have to like I remember the day that I figured out because I used to just like go up, get all your stuff, carry it all the way back, go up, get all your stuff, carry it all, like make the long haul. And but I remembered the first day I figured out, oh my god, I can just make them carry all the shit and dismiss them, assign their home to this new place, dismiss them, and they'll walk there with all my shit. So I did that. That's where I am right now, hanging out at Hangman's Alley. So that's my uh gameplay. And oh, we on purpose rearranged the show, and I skipped that immediately, Jess. I apologize for that. So let's do our new thing that we're gonna do here. We have a little feature. We featured this the song in the past and played the game in a little bit different way. But this week I have sent Jess and Ray an item in the mail, and we are going to do like a new little taste test here on the Fallout feed. And we're gonna cram this under the umbrella of Dr. Pepper Dew or Dr. Pepper Don't.
SPEAKER_01Are you guys ready for the great new game show? Dr. Pel Dew or Dr. Pel Don't.
SPEAKER_05Dr. Pelp. Get the Pepper.
SPEAKER_01Dr. Pel. Let's go.
SPEAKER_18Let's do this. All right, it's you know, not Dr. Pepper, it's not Mountain Dew, but today we're doing a little taste test. We got Jones special release, Nuka Victory Cola. What do you guys think?
SPEAKER_01Nuka Victory. So yeah, so some of the guys in Discord know this showed up on my doorstop on Friday, and I'm like, what? Well, who's sending me random nuca colas? I mean, never look a gift cap in the mouth, but unsolicited pop. Mildly concerned. But yeah, it's beautiful. So Ray got his, I got mine, you got yours. I actually I'm gonna be opening mine with a Mayrunes dagger letter opener that I got.
SPEAKER_18Uh that's hilarious.
SPEAKER_01The inaugural use of my Mayrunes dagger bottle opener that I got from the Bethesda store.
SPEAKER_18That is very fun. All right, so a couple of notes off the top. It's bright sort of pink, sort of like looking like a strawberry soda, maybe. Uh cool little label, red, white, and blue victory course themed, the cap. Like Ray noticed, is a twist off, so it means they are aware of the most valuable thing of the whole the selling would be this the bottle cap involved. Then I was thinking, these bottle caps in the wasteland, are they more valuable if they're flat? Are they like worth a dollar if they're flat, and if they're bent and crooked, are they only worth like 50 cents or something?
SPEAKER_01I think you gotta hammer them back out, you know, for easy storage and stacking. But to be fair, most counter cap most counterfeit caps are probably not gonna be bent.
SPEAKER_18So true. How do you get counterfeit caps? Wow. Oh, that's another fun thing. Are they actually more valuable if they actually came off a bottle instead of So they're not, but that would be cool if there was like a hierarchy of caps.
SPEAKER_01Well, we know Blue Star bottle caps are special. That was true, there is a hierarchy, yeah. Hierarchy of caps. But yeah, I mean, there's I mean, there's even quests about counterfilling caps. You know that when you get a a bottle cap press running. So anyway, I have poured my Nuke of Victory into my Nuke of Victory glass.
SPEAKER_18Oh my god, you have a Nuke Victory glass. Look at you.
SPEAKER_01I do. It's probably being used for its proper purpose.
SPEAKER_18Have you ever drank had anything out of your Nuke of Victory glass before?
SPEAKER_01Yes. Oh wow, okay. I just had mine.
SPEAKER_18I haven't tasted yet. Ray is not a sweet, sweet uh drink person, so we'll have to keep that in mind. And Jess has also shied away from sweet drinks for years and years.
SPEAKER_01Do not drink sugar soda usually, yeah. Okay, you guys. Wow.
SPEAKER_18My first thought peach, I think.
SPEAKER_01My first thought is a Jolly Rancher. I get yes, it's like a peach. Jolly rancher, maybe a little watermelon, maybe more watermelon than peach.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, I can get some watermelon too. Yeah, peach was my first big haste there. But yeah, very uh summery. Yeah, it's not it's not actually quite as intense as I was expecting. I was expecting it'd be like bam!
SPEAKER_01No, so I've had the quantum and I've had the Sunset Sasparilla, and I think I've had at least one other flavor. But this is lighter than both. So Sunset Sasparilla is like you'd expect a sassarilla. Nuca Quantum is pretty strongly flavored. It's very sugar sweet. This is actually you put a little ice in it, and it'd be perfect.
SPEAKER_18Ray, I know it's not quite your thing, but is it tolerable?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's not super sweet. Yeah, it's not overly like And it's very subtly flavored.
SPEAKER_18Mm-hmm. Do you two do you get watermelon and peach? What do you get?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't know about the watermelon, definitely the peach.
SPEAKER_18As long as it's not passion fruit.
SPEAKER_02In Georgia, everything tastes like peaches.
SPEAKER_01Probably tastes like water to you now. Like even the water tastes like peaches. But so in chat right there, a couple of them have already had Nuka Victory. John has had it, the shoveler. He says, I like the Nuke of Victory. Anybody else had it in chat?
SPEAKER_18Where do you generally find it? Because I just found it on Amazon just to send it to you guys. Like, do you see this stuff in the store?
SPEAKER_01The most common place to get the multi-packs now is Costco. Costco tends to stock the gym, so don't need to pack it.
SPEAKER_18Oh, cool.
SPEAKER_01Otherwise, you kind of have to order them. And you can get the Sunset Asparilla or a multi-combo pack.
SPEAKER_18Very cool. Well, that was a fun little feature. Feel free to dump out your Nuka Cola.
SPEAKER_01Well, there's a rating. Is it a Nuca Nuka do or Nuka? I mean, Nuka Cole. Oh, yeah, right.
SPEAKER_18We have to actually play the judging part. Is Nuka Do or Nuka Don't. Considering I haven't actually tried the other flavors, this is my very first fallout themed beverage of all. Like I have tried the quantum or anything. And I assume there's just like a regular Nuka Cola as well. I haven't or Sunset Sasperilla. I haven't tried any of those. It's not something I would be a regular consumer of, but it is totally for a funsies. Sure. You can it'll it you can pound one of these back with a moldy hot dog, maybe over at Ooh, okay. Now you're talking. The theme park with the cat head. What's his name? Mr.
SPEAKER_01Camden Park. Camden Park. Camden Park.
SPEAKER_18There we go.
SPEAKER_01It's been too long. We gotta get you back in somebody.
SPEAKER_18I can't even remember Mr. Fuzzy.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna drop a pick in Discord of the delicious beverage. Yeah, no, good times. I like it. I would say if I was reading it on a five cap scale, I would give it at least three caps with add some ice. It needs to be cold. Like the colder I think, the more refreshing it would be. But it is solid. I like it.
SPEAKER_18I always get a little uh iffy when when drinking like thematic things like that, just weird flavors and Jones sometimes will have like celery soda or whatever.
SPEAKER_02Turkey dinner.
SPEAKER_00Why do you think, Ray? What would you give it, Ray? I don't think I heard if you was the dealer don't for you.
SPEAKER_02Well, I didn't spit it out. But I'm not gonna finish it.
SPEAKER_18Is that something Nancy would consume? No. Right now? Nothing. Not even with like put a little gin or rum in here, something like that.
SPEAKER_02Not her gem.
SPEAKER_01So I double checked the multi-pack. It's actually they come in 12 packs. They come in 12 packs with Nuka Cherry, Nuka Victory, and Nuka Orange right now. And there was a note from uh John that the label is a little bit different than the ones he's had. Because these ones say Joan's special release on them, whereas the ones from Costco do not.
SPEAKER_18Oh, weird. I wonder what's special about the release.
SPEAKER_01I don't know if it was a if it was a separate printing we got. So these are collectors ones that we just cracked open, maybe.
unknownOh my god!
SPEAKER_02And I did notice that your there is prime labeling on it as well.
SPEAKER_18Oh, is it an Amazon exclusive because of the show?
SPEAKER_01No wonder you had to special order it, but it's delicious.
SPEAKER_18It is a prime thing, you're right. It says a follow up prime right there on the side. You're right.com. Oh gosh, there's a cap thing too. Holy cow.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there's uh QR code inside the cap.
SPEAKER_18I didn't even look at the underside. Oh, there is. Wow. Well that's fun. Oh, it does say twist off on the side of the cap.
SPEAKER_01Always got to look at the underside of your caps on the Sunset Smash Brilla because you could get a blue star bottle cap.
SPEAKER_18All right, very cool. Let's see, guys, what else do we have in the shoe for tonight? Probably some iguana bits, but let's get to the butt stuff. Some iguana bits.
SPEAKER_01Jessica to the office, please. Jessica to the office. Your iguana bits are ready. Please come pick them up. So they are bits, not butts. Before we get into it, I just want to clear that up.
SPEAKER_02Well, yeah. If if anybody tries to sell you an iguana butt, don't fall for it. Yes. Because iguanas have cloicus.
SPEAKER_20They have what?
SPEAKER_18Cloacas. Cloacas. Not a butt.
SPEAKER_01No, we're not eating butt on the show. So let's see. What do we got in the bits right now? So first off, new season info. Really, this time it's going to be all Bethesda announcements that we're going to talk about this week. So first off, they announced two changes to seasons coming up. Well, two things. The first thing is a change, and that's legacy seasons. So for people who have in the past maybe not completed a season, maybe, you know, are still playing but took a season off or whatever and missed stuff. You know how they have previously done like Fallout First Ketchup, where you can get some of the items in the Atomic Shop as a catch-up thing in a bundle. But it may not be what you want. It's not the whole thing. It's just usually the Fallout First items. Well, now they are doing legacy seasons. That should start next season. And the way they're doing it, when you load into the season screen, you're able to do the current season, which is going to be pint size slasher themed, or choose an older season, which it looks like is going to be Armor Ace. So the season coming up with C is called Beware the Blood Moon is going to be next season, is the name of it. And then the Armor Ace season, you guys might remember from a while ago where they first introduced that faction. The Armor Ace and the Paw Patrol, if I remember correctly, and you can actually redo that scoreboard. So what's interesting about it is that it will not remember how the old board was literally a board until two years ago when we started getting the new season ticket system. So the assumption is that we're going to be using tickets for this. And I believe they said they're not introducing any new tickets. So instead of being the old school board, you're going to have the items in a page system, like with the new ones. It'll be the same tickets. So you earn your tickets through challenges. You could use them either on the new season or use them on the old season, which means if you haven't earned the past season, you want both, you're going to have to grind harder and grind more, which I'm sure they're excited about, you know, for people. Another reason for people to keep on focusing, but it's a great opportunity for newer players who maybe weren't around for those seasons, people who took time off, as we do, who maybe missed the season, wants to go back, and also just lets you kind of pick and choose what you want to work on. That's pretty cool. They have a little fact on it. So the questions was one thing for the facts, can I progress in the current season and legacy season at the same time? Yes. You can use the same ticket. You can jump back and forth between seasons, use them for either. The legacy seasons will be running as long as the same season. So we get three or four months on a season, it'll be three or four months to work on the legacy season. They're asking, can you get the original game board and will it be claimable as reward? So you know how towards the end of the old ones, you get a copy of the board as the reward for finishing it. So they're saying those are a special commemorable item. They're great indicators of who was there when the season originally ran. So they are not going to be giving those out again.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01So you can get all the items from it, but you can't get the special collector's board. That's exclusive for those of us who are actually there.
SPEAKER_18I was there in the beginning.
SPEAKER_01I was there, man. I I played the season before, it was cool. Beyond that, they're not doing any real changes for daily and weekly challenges. It's not going to be more challenges or extra challenges because of this. Still earn them the same. But it makes sense because people, if they're actually playing regularly, can usually finish the season in a month or so. They're also going to have voting for what the next legacy season will be. So for instance, this time, like I said, they're going to have the Beware the Blood Moon season coming up, which is ho Halloween themed and spooky themed, and then Armory. But next time, what are they going to have? So they have a vote open. I don't know if the vote has closed yet, but it's over in the official Fallout Discord, there was a poll. So we were voting between City of Steel, which was had a bunch of Chris Less and themed stuff, motor cars and all that, Nuka the Nuka World season 11, and the Fight for Freedom season 14. So it was a choice between season 18, which was City of Steel, season 11, which was when Nuka World came in, and season 14, Fight for Freedom. Oh, well, I don't know which one won yet though, but that's what we're gonna choose between. So yeah, it looks like we want to get people involved and figuring out what to do. And seasons people maybe missed more of or really want the items from, we'll win. So that's a cool new thing coming up. The other thing I want to mention is they uh talked about what what the shape of the content next season will be with the next big update. So while not technically season related, you know, we regularly get updates. Those maybe slowing down a little bit while they're working on the next major content, which as we know, sometime next year, they are taking us to the capital wasteland and we're getting the Raven Rock expansion. So between now and then, they're not adding new quests that we know of, but this is gonna be kind of pint-sized slasher themed. Here's what we know so far. They say the slasher is a frightening experience that unravels over weeks, spanning our fall update. Players will need to hunt for clues, dig up unmarked graves, and fight off fanatics infesting the map. So they're gonna be bringing special infestations with the new system that are gonna have clues and stuff for you to gather. And if you do, you can then get it, you know, get a clue to what to do next, kind of like a treasure hunt kind of deal. Finally, it'll end with a confrontation with the pint-sized imposter himself, who's been sending people into Appalachia. And there's a chance to earn a unique power armor set and a new instrument of murder, the super slasher.
SPEAKER_18The plastic fork in the yard.
SPEAKER_01The events are layered over top one of another, and as you complete and build each section, you can move on to the next as they release it. So it's gonna be an escalating thing. In my mind, I compare it to m one of my favorite 76 updates that was not as big as like the full content updates, but Wild Appalachia, when we got the sheep squatch and the imposter sheep squatch and that whole thing. So we got the cryptid quest that came in, we got the hints and clues, we knew about the imposter sheep squatch, and that happened, and then the real sheep squatch showed up. So the way that they rolled that out over the course of three, four months, they're doing something kind of similar here. So I mentioned I mentioned that, and uh yeah, they they're excited about it. That's what they want to do. They also wanted to mention that along with the next big update that's gonna start this off, we are getting the next gen update for Xbox players on the Series S and X and PlayStation 5. So there's gonna be a boost. Essentially, we are going to, if we play on a modern system, because of course it originally came out for PS4 and Xbox One, that's how old our game is, y'all. They're gonna be giving us a next gen update, which essentially means better fidelity, better graphics, better resolution, hopefully more stability, and in other words, it's gonna look a little more like the PC version. Which I will tell you, as someone who plays on both, you can as soon as you go to PC, you see a difference immediately. Like even now, even after all the updates, the PC version just looks better. It's crisper, you see farther, everything is just a little nicer. And so we should be getting that if we play on serious consoles or PS5. So that's what we know so far.
SPEAKER_18That might draw me back in if that actually functions the way it should.
SPEAKER_01Right? Yeah, I think if it actually functions that I love the caveat there.
SPEAKER_18Because you know, sometimes they come up with the best ideas, and then the pathway you get to them are just the stupidest thing you've ever seen.
SPEAKER_01Your gun sending out squares of blue smoke. You just never know.
SPEAKER_18Don't talk about my squares.
SPEAKER_01Oh, sorry.
SPEAKER_18This is my nightmares.
SPEAKER_01Speaking of Fallout 4, so there was a big update for Fallout 4 that came out. So previously we got the big, big update for Fallout 4 that increased our mods based on a number of things with allowed stuff on PlayStation. However, it had a follow-up update now, which of course people were worried that was going to affect their mods and such. This happened about a week and a half ago, but it actually was pretty darn smooth. Came out. Most people didn't have their load orders affected. And it did, of course, break mods briefly on PC as well, but it was very brief. From what I understand, it was just wet raid. It was just your classic script extender and address library update that was needed there, probably, right?
SPEAKER_02I know you probably didn't allow it to apply, but yeah, no, yeah, it was it's always those two for sure, because they're version specific. But it seems to me that it also affected a lot of other mods because there was some there was definitely some back-end changes to the way that the game handles mods.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yeah. So one thing that they did, they increased the BA2 archive limit. So previously on consoles, or if you were using, I think probably on PC the creation system, I don't know for sure on this, but at least with consoles of any kind, you can only have 256 mods max or creations max, which sounds like a lot on console, right? Because even my like largest load orders, I tapped at around 120, 130. But because of the Creation Club update, if you had Anniversary Edition, that took up over 150 of those BAT slots right there because of everything it installed with it. So now you're down to under 100. So some of my old load orders wouldn't even fit. So they increased them from 256 to 1024 on consoles. And I assume that those changes affected stuff on PC then too, maybe. But I heard from those people that they were running fine right away.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, they definitely I think they got the the info out to the two teams that have those mods until they got them done really, really quick. Yeah. And I try not to be too pessimistic, but you know, I I really think that they didn't realize that they were every single one of their Pit Boy mods was a separate file. Right.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It didn't dawn on them because you know it works fine on our system.
SPEAKER_01Right. But of course on consoles, you're gonna hit that limit. Obviously, their test systems, I'm sure they're not testing with many mods installed besides their own when they're working on anniversary. But yeah, if you're gonna start doing beyond that, it hits the limit quickly. So it's a major benefit for us. So on top of the fact we already have more space from the previous update, we can now have more mods. Additionally, for our PlayStation friends, which I know there's a lot of you out there, archives are now supported on PlayStation. So that means you can finally have custom content outside asset mods on PlayStation now, too, which even though PlayStation had a small update, you still couldn't have outside asset mods. Now you can. You see your NIFs and your sound files and everything. Yeah. So I know Eleanora has been porting her stuff over madly, which of course, you know, stuff like the armor compendium and a lot of the house mods and locations with custom items that just wouldn't work before. Now they work.
SPEAKER_18So they now have full access to everything Xbox does?
SPEAKER_01As long as it gets ported over, yeah. So it does still need to be uploaded by the mod author for that system once they ported.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, that's just is that as simple as converting some one file to a different kind of file?
SPEAKER_01As far as I know, it's a just a couple tiny little tweaks. Yep. And then they can update tweaks. Yep, right in the creation kit. Also, they can do up to two gig. So previously we were capped at one gig for file size, now it can be up to two gig. And so up to two gig means larger mods, means good stuff like we talked about in the past, about getting some more King Gath mods and getting like full versions of Sim Settlements 2 over on. Well, actually, to be fair, I think King Gath did address that the full version of Sim Settlements 2 would still be too large, but they were looking at a cut-down version that would work. So, you know, it's something. They're also working on the UI. So the search and replace works like the Starfield setup too. So it's easier to search and find things and stuff in the menu. Beyond that, they've fixed some crashes. A lot of this is all around creations, but it was a good update. I'm hearing good things from everybody who's been using it pretty much.
SPEAKER_18One feature about the anniversary edition that I just discovered that you probably have talked about in the past on the show that I had never seen before was the option to toggle performance versus appearance for your dependence of it. What do you do? Do you do on your Xbox at home?
SPEAKER_01Do you do performance or appearance and what so it really depends on the game and how it runs, but most people that I know usually use performance, you know, because they want that 60 FPS. They want the smooth frame, 60 FPS, run better, less stuttering. Me, I'm a fan of locked 30 FPS, which I know 60 is smoother and I love the way it feels. But if I can turn on all the visual goodies for photo mode and other things, but also I prefer locked. Because a lot of times, if you have things unlocked, it's bouncing between 50 and 60. And sometimes you can feel that. Whereas if I can lock it at 30, it feels smoother.
SPEAKER_20Okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. But most of the time when it comes to Fallout, I do. And of course, I don't do 120 some like Ray and have my game go haywire.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's what happened to you in Fallout 4 a couple months ago, right, Ray?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. I was like, why why can't I click on anything?
SPEAKER_18Everything moving triple speed, quadruple speed.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Just moving too fast.
SPEAKER_01Causes havoc with the physics for sure. So that was Fallout 4. But since then, Skyrim also got an update, which is similar, but a little bit smaller. And of course, people groaning, another Skyrim update, but this may be one of the last updates Skyrim ever gets. I know famous last words, you know, it'll still come out on three more systems.
SPEAKER_18But no, Switch will be out in a few years.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02Well, and I recognize as a PC player that you know PCR is a minority of players, and so they do have to do do all these things for all the poor little console players. But we we get these regular updates that do absolutely nothing to actually help the PC game.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like I heard from some people that for the Fallout 4 one, it might have made some impossible for himself, but the Skyrim one that it came out did nothing for PC players, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, nothing at all. Except for break a few things, which well break all your mods.
SPEAKER_01Which more so the Fallout 4 one I mentioned was especially smooth. The Skyrim one, not quite as smooth. From what I've heard, beyond the usual script extender and address library, it actually did make a few changes to the way things interact with the game, like Ray was talking about, that are affecting some people's installs and will take longer to get fixed on a few things. And mostly anything uses the MCM, you know, that sort of thing.
SPEAKER_02So I'm glad you guys got a better game.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, Ray. I you know, that's very generous of you. I would also say, you know, PC players are not really a minority. In fact, over the last five, ten years, they've become more and larger and larger as people move away from consoles to PC a bit with some of the changes.
SPEAKER_18I know exactly what's gonna happen when I play some Skyrim here the next week. I'm gonna fire it up and see green squares of smoke.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you are. So fortunately, all of mine are locked down tight. Sealed up. So even if Steam wanted to update my files, they couldn't. So the chastity belt is locked tight.
SPEAKER_01But what we console players did get for Skyrim, the updates. So the mod storage was increased as well. So it went to 100 for Fallout 4, and obviously it was already there for Starfield. Skyrim just got increased to 15 gig. So that's three times larger because previously Skyrim had been updated to 5 gig with special edition. So now they've got 15. So a decent amount of space, a little bit less than the others, but it is an older game, despite all the updates. So, due to differences in platform storage systems, PlayStation 4 had to have a little bit lesser. There are some new bundles in the Skyrim Creation menu, and I didn't mention this, but both now Fallout 4 and Skyrim can have achievement-friendly mods. People care about achievements and trophies. There will be some achievement-friendly mods available in there. The storefront UI chain to create support, the creations box art, the creation kit itself got a number of updates, and a number of crashes and stuff were fixed. But again, this has not been quite as smooth. It may take longer to get a few mods and creations working, especially on PC. And some things are just not quite there. Oh, some people lost their load orders too. I should mention that. While Fallout 4, load orders were all backed up. You were fine. If you had gone in game, saved, loaded that game back in, load order should be fine. On Skyrim, some people have reported, even on console, that load orders disappeared.
SPEAKER_18Sounds about a great time to start a new game, though.
SPEAKER_01It does. And beyond that, there is actually creation out there if you search for it that will restore your load order. There's actually a creation that looks in the old file to restore your load order. Yeah. But you know, when the joke about modders fixing the game, sometimes they do.
SPEAKER_18Yep.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. And then the last thing I want to mention, the third butt on the list. Because it has the juiciest butt. Oh my goodness. So juicy. So, so ripe and peachy. So this happened almost two weeks ago, but we didn't record last week. So information and clues came out about the name of the next Elder Scrolls game. And there was speculation on Discord and here and there. And I can't believe that's been less than two weeks, but it has been. So Asha Sharma, CEO of Xbox, he posted a thing, recently got a look at gameplay and story for Elder Scrolls, Colonel Asterisk, Asterisk, Asterisks, and looks great, story epic, blah, blah, blah. You know the kind of hype tweet that you would do. And of course, what else is she going to say? But it was a pretty cool hype tweet. And when she posted that, there were eight asterisks. Well, then Bethesda came in and Bethesda Game Studios account posted, it was wonderful to show you Elder Scrolls, Colonel Asteris, eight asterisks again. When the number of Hammerfell. When the number of asterisks matched, it got a lot of obviously speculation going rampant. A lot of people like, oh come on, this it probably isn't a thing, but others were like things. So yeah, speculation went wild. People were trying to figure out wait, that is too many for Hammerfell. What could it be? So some of the earliest ideas people had were Dominion. Dominion is eight letters, so like for the Eld Mary Dominion, who will probably be fighting. People mentioned High Rock. If you don't include the space in High Rock, which is obviously the province where Daggerfall is, would match, but there's a space nine. There are a number of other ideas people had. One of the first ones that were mentioned was actually Sentinel. That was one of the maybe top three or four contenders people had out there. You know, other things I saw, there was Aldmaris as an option. Let's see. There were just there were a number of ideas. Way too many. But we already kind of felt like it was gonna be around Hammerfell. My contribution, which I thought would be fun, was Uprising because I want to fight back against the Thalmor. I love the idea of it being like an umpire strikes back kind of deal. So, you know, uprising, we're striking back against the Thalmor. But that didn't really doesn't fit the scheme. Skyrim, Daggerfall, Morrowind, is usually on cities or provinces, right? So Sentinel started picking up steam. And then people went back and looked. Now, three years ago, even on Reddit, people looking at the Starfield Reveal had talked about how the employee ID number. So you have basically everyone plays the test build.
SPEAKER_18Employee ID numbers now.
SPEAKER_01So in character creation, everybody had the same in all these videos and the clips they shared, had this employee has the same employee D number. If you take it and look at it and you split it by every two characters being a number and match that to the alphabet, it actually spells Sentinel. It actually spelled Sentinel. And at the time people didn't know what it meant.
SPEAKER_02Like doesn't mean anything, it's not it also matches one of the characters that you can create in Starfield and the stupid power armor that I was talking about earlier.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Sentinel power armor. Yeah, there's that too. Good point, good point.
SPEAKER_02So when it's in every single one of the games, that has to be it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And so people said, oh, this seems really likely. Plus, there was the fact, and we knew this already, but there was graffiti on the dashboard in that initial trailer reveal, too. And if you scroll down, it looked kind of like a map of both High Rock and Hammerfell in there and like the island of Strauss Mackay down below. Anyway, so people are like, okay, this is all hinting towards Hammerfell. But then with this, they're like, okay, it's gotta be Sentinel. And then Epic Nate put out a video saying, yeah, I actually kind of heard through the grapevine.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. My excellent source told me this is what it is.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So he he didn't provide like how he had heard through the grapevine, but he's pretty reliable. And so he said, Yes, I've heard this as well. And I should also mention there was one other thing. Michael Kirkbride, who we all know, was one of the original lore masters in the Elder Scrolls, worked on Morrowind and Oblivion, did a lot of the books still and such. And I think a little bit of Skyrim, but hasn't been with Bethesda since you know late 2000s. Anyway, someone posted Sentinel on Reddit when they were doing speculation and he replied to it, yep. Which I know again. One word reply, what does it mean? But this is Michael Kirkbride, who is a legend.
SPEAKER_18You know what has eight characters? S-K-Y-R-I-M-I-I.
SPEAKER_01You know what else has? Describe it to you. I love it. Yeah, but you know what else? Fallout. Fallo 5 is 8 characters. It's secretly working in Fallout.
SPEAKER_20That's only seven, I think. Okay, Sejess.
SPEAKER_01I was just saying Fallout 5 is also eight characters. So it could all be a secret scheme that we're actually gonna get Fallout 5 first and make the Elder Scrolls players even matter.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. The best thing for me is the fact that I just don't care. Ray will take it when it comes to it. I don't care how far along they are. Just give me the damn play it when it's ready. You do care how far along. I never, I never, ever, ever care what a game what the game is called.
SPEAKER_18Oh no. That never gets me pumped. I'm never like, yes! Are you a brothership? I always wanted that one. Yeah. Not a big deal. All right.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, just one last thing. So speaking of when things are coming and this and that, you may have seen Ray, which again, you don't care, but Sean Murray was talking, I think, with PC Gamer recently about Light No Fire. Did you catch any of that interview or any of the snippets?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And he talked about how they had more to show, and it's further along than people might think, but there was so much hype around the game after the first trailer or stuff like that, they didn't want to disappoint or give make the same mistake of getting people too hyped ahead of time. So they're keeping under their hat till they're ready.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah, definitely they're yeah, they have a very vivid memory of the launch of No Man's Guy. So even though that was ten years ago. Yep. You know, that had a lasting effect on them. So yeah, they'll Yeah, which is good. I mean, it's and even if they were starting to hype the game now, I wouldn't really care.
SPEAKER_01He talked, he kind of confirmed one of the things that we kind of suspected as well, that some of the updates they brought to No Man's Sky have been related to content and systems they're working on for Light No Fire, kind of cross-pollinating stuff with I believe they mentioned ships and water and stuff, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, shipbuilding, yeah, water weather effects.
SPEAKER_01Now, if that comes out 2028, because I still, as much as I would love to see Elder Scrolls 6 Sentinel, if that's what it's called, if that is your name, in I'd love to see in late 2027, but we know it's most likely gonna be 2028. But imagine if that came out at the same time as Light No Fire. Oh, I'd be so mad. At least I mean for Ray, because I don't know, it'd be hard for you to choose.
SPEAKER_02Well, I wouldn't, I'd just buy both.
SPEAKER_01Fair, fair. Just split that 80 hours up, you know, you can do it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I mean, I I sleep way more than I need to.
SPEAKER_00That's a great attitude. I love it.
SPEAKER_18You could easily play four more hours of games every day.
SPEAKER_02Every day, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I definitely want to play both.
SPEAKER_02I really, I really feel like I'm a slacker.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, you're really cutting into your time here.
SPEAKER_01Eating, sleeping, hanging out with the pup.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_18Walking. Showering. You there's tons of things you could cut out of the day.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm pretty sure I couldn't cut out any more showering.
SPEAKER_01It's like I'm at the minimum once a week, whether I need it or not.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm like, oh, dude.
SPEAKER_18When Nancy complains about the flies, I tell her, yep, oh, that's the paludarium again. Not not that Ray's pulling a pig pen.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, that's looking like an amazing, amazing game.
SPEAKER_01Looks good. I really I want to delve into it. As much as I didn't play No Man's Sky. No fire is all right.
SPEAKER_18No fire. I don't think I've actually seen a uh trailer for it.
SPEAKER_01It only has the one, it only has that one trailer reveal.
SPEAKER_02And it's pretty epic.
SPEAKER_01So it is they're bunny people. I'm sure, you know. Right?
SPEAKER_02Well, back when that originally launched, and we talked about it on the show. Two, three years ago, yeah. Beautiful years ago.
SPEAKER_01Beautiful. But that is it for the bits, y'all.
SPEAKER_18Beautiful. All right. I think it is time. Yes, it is. We have a game time. Oh, sweet. So let's see what kind of uh game we have this week. What time is it?
unknownGame time!
SPEAKER_01Okay, this is just gonna be a quick little preview, kind of taste of what we're about to talk about on Vault Talk. This is a Mojave Lore trivia quiz for episode five. So these are gonna talk about things that we'll be talking about. Unlike last episode, when I tested you on the first four episodes, this is episode five specific. So roll up your sleeves and get ready.
SPEAKER_20Ooh.
SPEAKER_01And I've only gotten seven questions, so it's not too tough.
SPEAKER_18Okay.
SPEAKER_01And I think you guys will probably get most of them, but no pressure.
SPEAKER_18Wait, we have uh uh a good luck wish here.
SPEAKER_11Good luck, nib chips.
SPEAKER_18We just had a we were saying good luck.
SPEAKER_01That was perfect. So, according to the bartender, shotgun Jeff, which specific location did the death clause currently infesting the New Vegas strip come from? Was it A, Sloan, B, Quarry Junction, C, Prim, or D, Black Mountain?
SPEAKER_18Andrew B.
SPEAKER_01Quarry Junction, that is correct, sir. Good job.
SPEAKER_18That's where they're actually from in the game, too. They nailed that one, right?
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_18Yep.
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_01That's why this is actually a lower tribute, because this is all stuff that does seem accurate according to the game, too. Which is nice. Okay.
SPEAKER_20Question two.
SPEAKER_01On what specific date and time did Robert House's mathematical models first predict the world would end? Was it October 23rd, 2077 at 9 42 a.m.? Was it April 14th, 2065 at 5 20 a.m.? Was it April 14th, 2065 at 517 a.m.? Or finally, January 14th, 2026, at 3 a.m.
SPEAKER_18I don't remember the well, I remember what it is in game, but I think she he made a comment about it jumped ahead or something when so this is I'm asking what date and time did his at mathematical model predict the world would end.
SPEAKER_01Not when not the date the world would end up.
SPEAKER_02No, so when the model it didn't predict when the world would end. It's when the model changed.
SPEAKER_01Yes, so no prediction. Two things. So we'll talk about that during the episode, but yes, this is right.
SPEAKER_20We're getting ahead of ourselves.
SPEAKER_01It did predict when the world would end, but that's not what he's and that's not what the questions asking or what Robert House talked about. He's talking about the date and time that it happened, that the data coalesced and gave him a figure.
SPEAKER_18When was it one of those two that were the same day but different times, and I don't know what the significance of the times is.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so it was when Janie was born. Exactly. Yep. So was April 14th, 2065 at 5.17 a.m.
SPEAKER_18517 a.m.
SPEAKER_01Got it. You are correct.
SPEAKER_18What was the other time you had there?
SPEAKER_01I'd put 520 a.m. Now, here's a fun connection, which we'll get to. So April 14th, 2065 is when Janie was born. That's when his model coalesced that he said. But April 14th, 2065 at 520 a.m., three minutes later, is when the Margot system around the Capitol was powered up by the Enclave and other Enclave systems came online. So there is a very good chance that rather than being related to Janie's birth and his wife Barbara, like we think it is, it may actually be related to enclave activity and systems coming online. And you learn about this during Broken Steel in Fallout 3. That date and time is mentioned.
SPEAKER_03Wow.
SPEAKER_01So it could be either, it could be both. The events could be connected as we know. The Enclave are kind of starting to loom a little bit in season two. Anyway, good job because I got that one right. Okay, next question. That was probably the hardest one. Three. Which freeside landmark mentioned in the episode is actually an Easter egg reference to a location from New Reno in Fallout Two? So these are Freeside Landmarks that you see in the show. But one of these may not actually be in the game. But it was in Fallout 2, and that's a reference. So is it the Silver Rush, the Atomic Wrangler Casino, the Golden Globes Adult Studio, or Mick and Ralph's?
SPEAKER_18Must be that third one. Must be Sarah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Golden Globes, yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's it.
SPEAKER_02Because that's the only one that's not in Vegas.
SPEAKER_01That is correct. Golden Globes Porn. It's actually Golden Globes Porn, is what it's called. Is a location in New Reno, and it's the adult film studio in Fallout 2 that you can find.
SPEAKER_18Reno, that's so funny. They go to Reno.
SPEAKER_01And they actually put a sign in Freeside. You can actually see Golden Globes Porn. Actually, you just see Golden Globes P and the bottom of an O in frame in Freeside and the TV show. So they stuck a deep Easter egg in there.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, that's that's a fucking deep reference. Good job.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm. Okay, question four. How does Robert House primarily manage his public appearances during the pre-war summit in Las Vegas and in general for the last 10 years? Does he wear a customized power suit to hide himself? Is he a digital projection on a big screen? Does he speak exclusively through Victor, or does he use a human body double?
SPEAKER_18Is that his brother? I thought it was his brother. It's not. No, it's just why did I think that it was his brother? I don't know what.
SPEAKER_01So yes, you guys were correct. It's the last one. The character played by Rafi Silver is a body double.
SPEAKER_18Noise.
SPEAKER_01It isn't his brother Anthony House, as far as we know. But you were thinking it was his brother because of the references in the first episode. We're like, wait, if that's not him and this is him here, is he his brother Anthony House, the slightly older brother, half-brother, technically?
SPEAKER_18But we never confirmed that. I just assumed that was true.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So he's actually, I believe, just an actor somebody hired, most likely.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_18He and his brother didn't get along, so it's not likely that they would honestly, if you never show your face in public, your body double wouldn't even necessarily need to look like you. He's just your physical your out your your face out in public, you know. If you're you never show yourself, it doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_01Yep. He's close enough to kind of match what vague info they had up to that point. Yeah, so I assume he is just an actor hired, but obviously he's living the good life. As he says in the episode, I've been doing it for 10 years. It's a living. Like it's a damn good living. Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_18It's the fucking uh pterodactyl on the Flintstones. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah, that's great. Good reference. But I just I'm thinking about like, if your job was to cosplay the most powerful and influential person on the planet, or one of them, like, I mean, come on, that's the life, right?
SPEAKER_18Yeah, how much do you think he gets paid for that? He probably has the easiest goddamn job on earth for so much money. That's crazy.
SPEAKER_01He doesn't have to buy his own smokes, that's for sure.
SPEAKER_18Or robots. Free robots for life.
SPEAKER_01Okay, question five. Which classic Wallet New Vegas Side Quest is referenced by the presence of Fisto at an abandoned taco stand? Is it A. The debt collector twest? B come fly with me. C Wang Dang Atomic Tango. D. G.I. Blues.
SPEAKER_18I don't know the name of the quest, Ray. It's C. C. I'll go with C.
SPEAKER_01Yes, Wang Dang Atomic Tango is correct.
SPEAKER_18And what does the fistos stand for again? The I don't even remember what the acronym stands for.
SPEAKER_01Fully integrated security technology officer, I believe.
SPEAKER_02Technotronic.
SPEAKER_01Technotronic. Right. This beat is technotronic. Pump up the jam, baby.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. That's great.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so fully integrated security technotronic officer. Love it. Okay, question six.
SPEAKER_02At your service. Indeed. You thought you were more than us. Both of us.
SPEAKER_01So during Norm's investigation of Barbara Howard's computer, what is revealed as the true meaning behind the acronym FEV? This is a gimme. I just won't even give you your choices. FEV, what did it stand for?
SPEAKER_18Oh, I thought it was the Forced Evolutionary Virus, right? But I thought there was something else they said too.
SPEAKER_02Future Enterprise Ventures, right? Yes.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, yeah, yeah. Future Enterprise Ventures. You're right.
SPEAKER_01So Future Enterprise Ventures was the code name they use, but the correct answer was forced evolutionary virus because that was what is revealed as the true meaning. And finally, question seven.
SPEAKER_18Should I call it the fun evolutionary virus just for marketing purposes? It's just not better than forced.
SPEAKER_01You know what? I am more likely to put money down for a fun evolutionary virus for sure. Maybe a fantastic evolutionary virus. I might even pre-order that.
SPEAKER_18Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01But me, I you know, I feel like the word virus is a little bit negative. Maybe that's bad marketing.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, let's find another V-word.
SPEAKER_01I'm thinking if things go viral, and that's possible. I don't know. Things are confusing.
SPEAKER_02So Robert House claims fantastic evolutionary vehicle. There you go.
SPEAKER_01Vector.
SPEAKER_02Vector.
SPEAKER_01Vanilla flavoring. Mmm, tasty. Robert House claims that Cooper Howard's presence in Las Vegas has an effect on his mathematical calculations regarding the end of the world. What happened? Did it render his mathematical model completely inaccurate and useless? Did it move the predicted date of the world ending forward by one month? Did it prove that Vault Tech was the party responsible for dropping the bombs? Or did it delay the predicted start of the war by several years? That is correct both. It moved it ahead, it moved it forward by one month when Cooper Howard showed up. So good job. You guys got seven out of seven, correct? Well played.
SPEAKER_18I think we watched this show.
SPEAKER_02Just a few minutes ago.
SPEAKER_18I should have rewatched it. I watched it like two weeks ago, and I'm like, oh crap, I should have re-watched it again.
SPEAKER_02I knew there was no way I had to remember anything, so I watched it this afternoon.
SPEAKER_18I should have.
SPEAKER_01So I'm in the same place. We're about to go into Vault Talk, of course. I'm in the same place. That reps up the game. You guys are seven out of seven. Well played.
SPEAKER_18Beautiful.
SPEAKER_01Game over, man. Game over.
SPEAKER_18Let's switch gears. What do you say? How about let's close down this episode of Fallout Feed? Switch over to Vault Talk. So we're concentrating on season two, episode five here.
SPEAKER_01And this week we are on season two, episode five, The Wrangler. So this one was directed by Liz Friedlander. It was written by Owen Alexon, Chaz Hawkins, and Chris Brady Denton. And yet another director, Liz Friedlander, with some changes like we were talking about. So you often ask, Andrew, what do we think the Wrangler refers to, right? What the double entendre is or the meaning behind the title is.
SPEAKER_18His jeans. I think it's his jeans.
SPEAKER_01Yes, he's wearing not Levi's Wranglers. No, of course, the Wrangler this episode refers to the fact that a lot of the acting takes place at the atomic wrangler that we see in the show.
SPEAKER_18Oh, and I also see one as him trying to police Lucy and her newfound behaviors. He's wrangling Lucy this whole episode as well.
SPEAKER_01He's wrangling Lucy. They are wrangling Death Claws. The Wranglers, of course, the atomic wranglers.
SPEAKER_18Oh my gosh, they're like 12 levels here.
SPEAKER_01So a couple possible interpretations there. I don't know which one is necessarily correct, but I enjoyed that. Quick summary of the episode we saw. We actually talked about some of it in the game that we just played. But this one covers a lot of flashbacks. So we deal with this episode not Maximus and the Brotherhood at all. There is no Maximus, no Thaddeus, none of that. But this time we are going to get some stuff from Hank. Obviously, the ghoul and Lucy quite a bit. A lot of flashback. And then a little bit with the Frosties, Norman the Frosty. So the first scene we come to is at the strip and the death claws, where we left off on last week's cliffhanger. This episode is full of cliffhangers by the end. Like I was surprised how how much I was left hanging with everything.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Pretty much everything.
SPEAKER_18Like dangling storylines.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. We're gonna end up not quite as dangerous as being attacked by a death claw, but actually, no, the ghouls may be in even a worse situation at the end of this episode.
SPEAKER_19But yeah.
SPEAKER_01At the beginning of the episode, it picks right up from episode four, and Lucy and the ghoul are facing down three death claws that are coming towards them. We have the one from Gomorrah that came through. We have two coming from either side, and they're actually kind of communicating and kind of like roaring at each other and working together as a pack to kind of converge on them. Very scary. Lucy, of course, looks at the ghoul and says, I defer to you about what to do in the situation. The ghoul says, Run. Run.
SPEAKER_02So they And there's even a fourth one. Because when they when they get behind the car between them and the fence is another one that's busy eating, and he just kind of looks up at the other ones and then goes back to eating. But yeah, there's a total of four of them. Yeah. Yeah. They've got a couple of skulls.
SPEAKER_01That makes good sense. Lucy has a couple of questions. Lucy is, so this is Vegas. You got a rocket launcher in that bag? Wait, actually, no, she asked for drugs first. Which, again, new Lucy, new character.
SPEAKER_05Run.
SPEAKER_09I really think I need some more drugs. You have any more? Drugs? No, I ain't got any more drugs.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_09What'd you recommend?
SPEAKER_03Got a rocket launcher in that bag?
SPEAKER_18Beautiful. Got a rocket launcher.
SPEAKER_01And besides that, for this scene, that's essentially all the action we get here on the script. Ultimately, they do manage to get away, run through the gate.
SPEAKER_02Thanks to dogmeat, of course. So he the ghoul throws uh a bag with grenades in it that causes an explosion after he sees dogmeat, you know, run out through the hole in the fence. And so he throws the bag, it explodes, they run.
SPEAKER_01Yep. We do hear dogmeat gave gave a whimper. I don't think he was hurt in the explosion, but I don't know. Did we say dogmeat again this episode? I don't remember seeing him again after this.
SPEAKER_02No, did he kill Dog Meat?
SPEAKER_01There's no way.
SPEAKER_02No, Dog Meat Dog Meat got out through the gate.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_18Before he threw it. Before he threw it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So between Dog Meat and the Blast, it distracted them. Although it didn't distract the one death call for long. I mean, because he was charging right after them when they ran for the gate.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah, and the ghoul ends up pulling Lucy from under the gate. Otherwise, she would have got.
SPEAKER_01Is that where we get the uh logo reveal this time too? As they slide under and it goes black and it changes the fallout, right? Yeah. And this was a New Vegas theme fallout for the strip, I think. Was it lit up in lights?
SPEAKER_18It was a good one.
SPEAKER_01So once they're outside, they actually stop to catch their breath. And Lucy asks, What are those citizens Vegas, huh? What are those surprisingly smelly lizard monster bull things? Have they always been here? And the ghoul's in shock. He says, Nope. And Lisi says, Okay, I'd ask why my dad ran into a gen den of giant monitors. You'd probably tell me just to shut the fudge up. Because again, the ghoul hasn't been especially communicative during this whole thing, but we know he has got a bit of a phobia around the death clause. It's a pretty intense situation, and the ghoul hasn't been especially forthcoming like he is sometimes. But he actually pauses here and he does gives a bit of info to Lucy, explaining more to her than he maybe has before.
SPEAKER_09This is vague, isn't it?
SPEAKER_19Yep.
SPEAKER_09And those surprisingly smelly lizard monster bull things, have they always been here?
unknownNope.
SPEAKER_09Okay. I'm ask why my dad ran into a den of tight monsters, but he probably just told me to shut the fudge up.
SPEAKER_03For the war, what's planning or special vault of management? Well now I think.
SPEAKER_08I think we should just go in there. Right? Now look at my state.
SPEAKER_18My whole my favorite part of the whole thing is the they're called death clause. Giant like Yeah, so we got a lot of lore dump there.
SPEAKER_01We got information on What the ghoul has actually been doing and searching for, that there were vaults for management. There were multiple. This is the first time us as viewers necessarily hear this. Like we knew there was a vault for management with the triple vault situation 31, 32, 33. But now the ghoul's saying there were multiple of these.
SPEAKER_18And in Oregon, too. Is that a place I assume you guys who know the lore inside and out would be, yeah, oh yeah, of course, Andrew.
SPEAKER_01But like no, no particular relevance locations he mentions. Yeah.
SPEAKER_18I've never heard of an Oregon.
SPEAKER_01And he's mostly talking West Coast locations, too, if I recall.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, he found or teasing Fallout 5.
SPEAKER_01Oh my God. I mean, conspiracy theory is abound for sure.
SPEAKER_18Portland weird. How many asterisk are in Oregon? Oh, is there eight? Oh my god.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god. Elder Scrolls Oregon. No, that's only six letters. I'm sorry. Oregon Trails. Portland.
SPEAKER_18Portland is eight fucking letters.
SPEAKER_01Elder Scrolls both six Portlands.
SPEAKER_18Portland.
SPEAKER_01No, but what if Fallot 5 has eight asterisk too? Who knows? Anywho. Back to the show. Yeah, we got a good bit of lore there about what the ghoul has been doing, and he's kind of we see his motivation for why he's here and Lucy learning more. But Lucy is still, you know, she doesn't know what to do. She's still a bit hyped up because of the buff out. And she says, I think we should just go back in there and get him. But can't go past the de pack of death claws. First time she's heard the word. I agree with the eye roll. It's pretty on the nose, but you know what? It's also very descriptive.
SPEAKER_18It is a silly name, but it's yeah. She's right. She's right to eye roll.
SPEAKER_01And we talked last week about how he hadn't mentioned addictol when he says there are two schools of thought, you know, as far as drugs. You can either ride it out for five days or take more drugs.
SPEAKER_18But he didn't mention the addictol.
SPEAKER_01He didn't at the time, but it made sense because he didn't have it.
SPEAKER_18But do you think you get the same amount of withdrawal and everything? You just concentrate it down into like eight seconds instead of four days? Like, oof.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, addictol probably works a little bit differently. So the way we see it here, you know, because in-game when you take it, it essentially just removes all your addictions. You don't get the visceral physical reaction that Lucy's gonna get in a little bit.
SPEAKER_20Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But the way he explains it too, he says, take this, take these caps. There's a general store over there called Sunny's. Ask for something called Adicdol. It'll clean out all that stuff you got running through your veins. So I like the fact it's called Sunny's Sundries of the store. You actually see it when they're walking through Freeside. And by the way, I really liked how Freeside was set up. The way they had the characters, it was much more Vegas. I complained last season about the way Philly looked. That Philly was a much more rundown settlement than your average settlement, even in a lot of ways, just like the characters were straight out of wasteland and much more, a little bit more Mad Max than Fallout in some ways. Here, no, they leaned in properly to Fallout. So there was a bit of New Vegas tire, New Vegas mix, classic 50s mix, great mix of people, looked cool. You saw Sunny Sundries right next to the Ranger, which Sunny Sundries isn't there in New Vegas in the game, but this is 16 years later, so would have opened there. Actually, they moved a few things because you get a view of Mick and Ralph's sign, and that's pretty not far from the entrance at all when you see the sign from Mick and Ralph. So they did rearrange things a bit just to condense it, like they did for the strip itself.
SPEAKER_02And Sunny's is where Andrew ordered the uh Nuka Cola Victory from.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that I thought that was cool.
SPEAKER_18So oh, was it the oh the shop was called Sunny Sunny? That's hilarious.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was called Sunny Something. But in some ways it can be a reference to Sunny in 76 too, which might be why they used the name. I mean, obviously we've we have Sunny Smiles. So what if Sunny Sunny was started by Sunny Smiles at some point in the future? Who knows?
SPEAKER_18Oh, there you go.
SPEAKER_01But also there is a thing in Foundation of Fault 76 for those who haven't played it, where there are three robots named Sunny, three protectrons, and they each run their own store, and they're fighting over who's the real Sunny. It could be a reference. Who knows?
SPEAKER_18The original Ray's pizza.
SPEAKER_01Meanwhile, the ghoul gives Liz the caps, tells her to get some Adictal, and he's heading off to get messed up.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, when he was explaining the two paths, it was like, this one's for you, this one's for me. I'm going to the keep doing more drugs.
SPEAKER_01So he walks into the bar. So this is the Wrangler. And it's remodeled slightly from what we knew in New Vegas. It's the counterfeit the same, the counter, the bar area, all that. And then the steps behind up to the second floor. But there is a it feels like the room is larger in the game, but it is in the atomic Wrangler. And we just don't see where the stage would be in any of these shots. So he walks in and there's a bartender there named Shotgun Jeff. It's no longer, is it the Garrett twins who ran it before? Yeah, I think so. Yep. So we don't know if he owns it or just works there. I forget the feeling that Shotgun Jeff, which is the character's name, actually owns it. So the ghoul asks for whiskey, pours a shot, ghoul says, the bottle. So Jeff gives him the bottle and then starts to try to make conversation. Yes, you saw them death claw things come up from quarry junction, fighting around the strip. Big whoop, just another change in management is all it is.
SPEAKER_15You saw them death claw things come up from quarry junction. They farting around the strip. Big whoop. Just another fucking round of change in management. That's all it is. Like one of the merry-go rounds. NCR Legion, NCR Legion, fucking robots. No matter to me. Always somebody trying to tell us what to do. As long as they don't come around and charge me taxes. I don't give a fuck. Don't try to charge you taxes, Elizabeth. Ah, shoot your goddamn head off. Stop talking.
SPEAKER_01I love that though. I this is kind of a reference to maybe what's happened since the game, or even a little bit before. He's mentioning NCR Legion, who's in charge, robots, and which of course would have been Mr. House and Securitron. And now lizards.
SPEAKER_02And you know, you tightened up the clip. So you lose that where he just says, stop talking.
SPEAKER_18Talking. Yeah, there's a dramatic pause.
SPEAKER_01Definitely.
SPEAKER_18Pregnant pause, if you will.
SPEAKER_01But I I like Jeff as a character here doing this. Don't charge me taxes, lizard. That might be my favorite lines from the episode. That was a good one. People at Freeside, they're dealing with the regular change in management there as well. Meanwhile, the ghoul, of course, is wants to hit his cups and doing some thinking. So as he starts drinking, we get a flashback.
SPEAKER_18I like how they are doing the flashback where he's at the same angle, his head like tips back, and then in the flashback, it takes you know, it flashes in when his head is like leaning back at the same angle and stuff. Like it was pretty cool how they were flashing back and forward with the his silhouette and stuff.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was well done. It was well done. And you have to wonder the ghoul right now needing time, having a drink, feeling really morose. I think it's two things. I think he's remembering what happened to Vegas before that we're getting in the flashback and some of the things that happened and went really wrong. And then we're also getting the fact that he is dealing with what he's about to do to Lisi that we're gonna see later in the episode and the choices he has to make or that he thinks he has to make. So, flashback pre-war, what we're at the LAX airport, get a little galaxy news symbol news drill there, talking about Rob Cosillo, Robert House. Of course, Cooper and Barb Howard land at the airport and they're met by young Hank the Clean, their assistant, who is handcuffed to a locked briefcase. He mentions that, yeah, so he's kind of suddenly found himself to be an important person right now and a possible assassination target. And that's because he's in charge of this briefcase, which as we know contains the cold fusion device. So Hank is essentially the courier for the cold fusion device right now. And he can't let out of his sight. So of course he's a possible assassination target for that. There are some people I know it's been posited that if Hank is actually a mole in Vault Tech, like we know, working for another party, Mr. House or somebody else, that's partly why. But I think at this point, I think that maybe he wasn't in deep with them yet. At this point, he is more pure Vault Tech and simply a Vault Tech corporate guy coming up the ladder, trying to be important. And that with the events that happen over the next couple episodes is when he gets in a little bit deeper into things than he was.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think pre-war he was just vault tech. But in the process of his vault journey, he recognized that there was a greater power to be tapped into.
SPEAKER_01Layers upon layers. So they get into a limo and they're riding through Las Vegas, Nevada. We see the highlights when things are actually on and running, bright lights, big city. There's even a Vault Tech Hotel and Cooper it there. And Barb says, yeah, we're doing really well, and the publicity from your advertising campaign has really helped. So Cooper responsible for part of the rise of Vault Tech in some ways.
SPEAKER_18Yeah. At least publicly. Is Vault 21? What one what building is that in?
SPEAKER_01So that's an interesting continuity thing. So Vault 21 is the vault on the strip in New Vegas. And it was converted into a hotel, but that actually happened.
SPEAKER_18This isn't the Vault Tech Hotel that they're at here.
SPEAKER_01See, I think it's got to be separate, but the sign that they show, the sign that they show that shows Vault Tech Hotel, Vault 21 Hotel, it does look like the sign in game for the Vault 21 Hotel. But that wasn't made until later by Mr. House. Really? He won the Vault in a game of chance, which was their experiment there, was that everything was solved by gambling and games of chance. And so they ended up agreeing to leave most of the vault dwellers left. Sarah Weintraub and her brother Sheldon Weintraub, I think. They stayed, as we know, and you know, Sheldon started doing the signs and stuff like that. So but that's Vault 21 Laura, and then House filled the bottom of the vault with cement. So anyway, there was a Vault Tech Hotel. Was Vault 21 connected to or under the hotel in that area? Maybe. But it wasn't technically Vault 21 Hotel at that point. That happened after Mr. House came back in the events in New Vegas.
SPEAKER_18I see.
SPEAKER_14Captains of industry gather in Las Vegas. Decide the fate of the free world. And the leader of this historic summit, Robert Edwin House. So what does this titan of the private sector think about his odds and succeeding? Where the government has failed.
SPEAKER_17Where I come from, which is America. The house.
SPEAKER_14Always win.
SPEAKER_18I thought it was odd that he had Witches America. I don't know why that caught me so like that's weird. Anyway.
SPEAKER_01I got slightly out of order here. I'm sorry, Ray. You probably realized I jumped the scene before they roll up in the limousine at the airport. Cooper has to duck off and get into a phone booth, and this is where he has the conversation with Kate, aka Moldaver. So he jumps into the telephone booth to talk to her.
SPEAKER_18And you know, she says it's funny they walk up to the phone booth like side by side, they go to different phone booths to talk to each other.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that way they can talk without being initially followed or spied. You want to play that clip, Andrew?
SPEAKER_13Is that what you call killing a man? Take the coin return. If Robert House gets cold fusion or tech gets the bombs, this is the only way to stop it. This is what I think it is. You're a soldier. You've killed before. I'm giving you the opportunity to save countless lives in exchange for one. I think in this case, the end is justified to me.
SPEAKER_03You know, people that say shit like that to you. Tell you what, I'll stop the exchange. I'll get your cold fusion back, but I'm not gonna kill a man to do it.
SPEAKER_18Is this what I think it is? What what chemical do you think it is?
SPEAKER_01I think he just is referring to poison in general. Yeah.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, just a poison him. I mean, it's a I'm wondering if it was like re of reference to something like, oh, I should know what that is based on.
SPEAKER_01I mean, what if it was, you know, maybe Vault Tech Plan D or whatever it was called, the poison that it's the mysterious serum.
SPEAKER_18Yes. What if it's the same shit he's drinking in the future to keep himself from going feral or something? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but no, I think it's just supposed to be generic poison number three, you know.
SPEAKER_18Arsenic triple XXX.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01She says, I think in this case the ends justify the means. People have been saying that stuff for years.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, I like that. I really like that reply. People have been saying shit like that for years. I do like that.
SPEAKER_01He's understands why he's there. He understands the need for what's gotta happen, but he doesn't want to kill a man to do it. It kind of shows the difference between the ghoul, who seemed to use violence as a first choice more often than not, and Cooper, who was not that person at that time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. That's the 200 years of experience. Yeah. Not yet.
SPEAKER_01He's kind of learned. So after that, they go out, and that's when they roll up in the limo to New Vegas and they have the discussion about the hotel and a few things like that. They go to get out. And there is a protest happening outside the Lucky 38 right now. And people shouting, someone saying, What? Corporate greed has no place in government, you sold us out, a bunch of stuff there. And then they're carrying a woman out to the security guards with a woman out, and it's Representative Welch from that we saw before from the VFW function.
SPEAKER_18And she's saying private representative, right?
SPEAKER_01Right, Glendale, saying private companies shouldn't be allowed to unilaterally dictate American policy. I deserve to be part of this conversation. I'm a United States Congresswoman, so she's in there trying to get into the meeting with captains of industry they were talking about, the big party. And she wasn't invited for some reason. She wasn't invited to this big party.
SPEAKER_18What does it mean to be a United States Congresswoman at this point? Like absolutely nothing, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, nominally something, but some have power and some have a lot less, especially her who doesn't take corporate money.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the corporation's role. But yeah, he when when they throw her to the ground, the two guards, you know, realize that they it's not what they wanted to have back.
SPEAKER_01Maybe it went a little too far. Yeah.
SPEAKER_18Just to toss the congresswoman on the ground, probably.
SPEAKER_01And people saw it, and you know, even someone even says, Oh, that's Congresswoman Welch. So they recognize her, and it this could be a bit of a situation, although a minor situation, because again, in the levels of congressional influence, she's probably lower on the totem pole.
SPEAKER_20Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Cooper, of course, hesitates for a second, but he recognizes her. And so he's a gentleman. He does the right thing, he goes up and to help her up. He's the first one to do so. And he says, I'm really sorry about that. And she says, No, it's fine. Fighting the good fight is mostly a series of humiliations. Great line.
SPEAKER_02That's such a good line.
SPEAKER_01And I like how it's fighting the good fight is very much a follow-up three reference too, because that's what Three Dog was always saying, you know, fighting the good fight was was his line.
SPEAKER_18So the shady meeting with all the the dark faces around the table, the corporate leaders, was there any government representatives or anything? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I mean West Tech was there.
SPEAKER_02I assume that had to be house, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. We know now that was most likely house. Most likely.
SPEAKER_02But it also could have been the Enclave.
SPEAKER_01Could have been. Somebody. We we don't know yet for sure.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, you're right. What if it was Ron Pearlman?
SPEAKER_01Well, we might see him later. So after he helps Representative Welch up, Barb, of course, is a little concerned by this whole situation. They have places to be, you know, because they are part of the captains of industry showing up to this event, or at least she is representing Vault Tech. So Cooper says to Diane, keep at it, you know, which is great, giving her that motivation that she's doing the right thing. Keep at it. They go on in, we get the interesting.
SPEAKER_18Literally the face of Vault Tech telling a protester of Vault Tech to keep at it. That's awesome. That's hilarious.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right? What's who Cooper actually is.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_18Which also means it's kind of like a bald-faced advertiser for something he doesn't believe in, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I to be fair, the security that threw her out was not necessarily they weren't necessarily Vault Tech security. Right? They were Lucky 38 security or people on site with the military even. Like were they maybe even military police?
SPEAKER_18Private private security, whatever. I don't know. I didn't recall any specific markings on the jacket or whatever.
SPEAKER_01So they go on into this party, and the first floor is of course the regular stuff you would expect. Casino stuff. It is a gathering of some rich and famous. The Vault Tech people there. You see Hank in there with his briefcase. He's going to meet people. He's actually talking to a couple of the Vault Tech employees who we recognize as a couple of the frosties over there. Was it like Clark and Pete that he's talking to? Anyway, two of the people who are future Buds in the program are actually here too. And Hank's talking to them.
SPEAKER_02That's fun.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_02And Cooper tells us she's Barb says that she needs to go talk to some people, and he uh Cooper offers to get her a Nukutini.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, perfect. So she goes off to do that at her event. And he, of course, says that when he's gonna get her a drink, but he's also scouting things out. Because we think he's gonna follow Hank and see what Hank is up to.
SPEAKER_18I think Nicotini has like an irradiated olive in it or something. Whatever.
SPEAKER_01Something tasty. So there's conversation happening around them. You know, these government knuckleheads can't solve anything, up to us. Government should be run like a business, all this kind of stuff that is as he's walking through hearing this stuff. Following Hank, Hank goes up the stairs, and Cooper's following him, but then the elevator opens on this second floor that they're at on the party now while he's about to get a drink. And coming out, it's Robert House or his body double. You know, it's the person we've known as Robert House up to this point. And people are hush-tones, there he is.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. There's Mr. House.
SPEAKER_01And he glad hands people a little bit, kind of starts to say hello, but he's walking pretty much right up towards Cooper. And Cooper's there watching, and yeah, the man that he's here to possibly try to kill is coming right out to him. And then he leans in and says, Mr. House would like to see you. Which he's talking about himself in the third person. No, wait, there's something else going on.
SPEAKER_18You know what weirdos do that.
SPEAKER_01So Cooper follows him, they go into the elevator, big house, Mr. Apartment behind him, lights up a smoke because there's smoking everywhere in the elevator going up. And this it's quite an interesting scene watching there. Elevator opens, and it's Victor.
SPEAKER_02Howdy partner.
SPEAKER_01And much more functional and normally Victor here than he was when we saw him at Camp Golf last week.
SPEAKER_02It was all shiny.
SPEAKER_01And it even says, Howdy partner, which is funny given that Coop often plays a cowboy in many of his movies.
SPEAKER_06Well, howdy partner! Howdy. Right this way! Hello, I'm Robert House from the fucking toilet. I apologize. I was just very eager to meet you. Now, I know that you came to Vegas to kill me, did you not?
SPEAKER_18From the fucking toilet? Yeah, that was good.
SPEAKER_01It was the best react, right? Because we get the big reveal. Like, what a cool reveal of House. First of all, Justin Thurrow is Mr. House. I really do like him. I mentioned before that I thought he was good when we saw him previously, but in this scene, he embodies a lot of what I think about Mr. House. Brilliant, cunning, but very much logical. And the way the situation progresses, this is kind of the crux of the season in a lot of ways, these two people meeting. He's just a presence in everything, you know, if that makes sense. Like he can be felt throughout it. And this is the first time we're really actually getting a full scene with him. Not in the toilet, at least. Back alley's in the toilet so far. He's now he's in his natural environment finally. But sitting in his penthouse here, I just thought was a really good reveal. He suggests that he should come down. And Cooper says no, he's gonna stay up there. Actually, it cuts here. I'm getting a little bit ahead because finished that, eager to meet you. You moved to Vegas to kill me, did you not? And then it switches to luck via lady in another scene.
SPEAKER_02Oh, right. Okay. Yep, because we jumped to the the salesman, you know, walking down the road, kicking up his heels.
SPEAKER_01He's happy, he's cheerful. Luck via lady tonight is the snake oil salesman, and he's got his fusion core, and he's on his way to New Vegas to gamble, maybe, but it's a fun little montage. He's walking towards, he leans over sniffing a flower. It's a beautiful day.
SPEAKER_02Uh and I love the fact that so the music's playing, and then the music stops, and he's got a uh Brad Roach on him, and he's stabbing the top. And then and then it immediately cuts back to the music, and he's you know, going on his way. That was just such a perfect cut.
SPEAKER_01It was really well done. I liked the music and the cinematography, everything about it. I also liked how the change in mood that last time we saw the snake oil salesman was when he gave Thaddeus the the drugs and converted to a ghoul or whatever and made the trade for the fusion core. And at the beginning of that scene, he was about ready to end it. He was in a bad place, you know, everything nothing had been going his way. Things were awful. Now we see him a couple weeks later, whatever it's been, and he's happy as a daisy, smelling the flowers, kicking his heels. I thought the contrast was kind of funny.
SPEAKER_02So was the uh was the fusion core for the check tron? I'm wondering.
SPEAKER_18Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01So he shows up when we next see him after excuse me, after this montage getting there, we next see him and he's sitting at a picnic table in a little square, a little outdoor taco stand, some other things, and he's having a conversation with somebody. And you know, he's like, Hello, gorgeous, how I've missed you. And he says, I know you'll be disappointed how I behave since we've been apart, but you can't begrudge a man for filling the void, can you? We know what kind of voids this guy's been filling. But anyway.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, chickens. Hello, gorgeous, how I've missed you. I'll admit you'd be disappointed in how I behave since we've been apart. But can't begrudge a man for filling the void, can you?
SPEAKER_07Fully integrated security technotronic officer active and reporting for duty. That makes two of us.
SPEAKER_05Oh, a look you Lou, eh? Go watch from behind a shrub or something like a civilized pervert now. Where were we? How would you like to forget?
SPEAKER_00Oh, let's stop it here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because once he tells him to go behind the bush and, you know, watch like a civilized pervert, he turns back to Fisto and says, you know, where were we? And then that's when he gets a crowbar to the back of the head.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It was just he's so happy because he's coming to see Fisto. It turns out Fisto, they obviously had a thing in the past. Now, was the Fusion Corps to power Fisto back up, like you were suggesting, right? It might be. I almost thought that he was just going to be able to sell it in New Vegas, sell the core, and be able to arrange the date and have money for Fisto and such.
SPEAKER_18I thought he was romantically involved and he's taken his I imagine Fisto being powered down and inactive, and he's so excited on his trip back. And by the way, he's going from Los Angeles. He's doing the same fucking trip that everybody else is, but disconnected from the whole story. His motivation to be there is just to power up his lover again.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. Or have many affordable. Maybe Fisto have been powered down and he actually brought his lover back then.
SPEAKER_18Maybe, you know, he That's why he was so excited to get it back in LA.
SPEAKER_01Maybe he ran his battery out. Maybe the snake oil salesman alone ran out Fisto's battery. But the position we find him in now, he is he's trying to get back to it in the oh a looky loop. Go wash behind a shrub or something like a civilized pervert.
SPEAKER_18Like a civilized pervert.
SPEAKER_01And then Hank was him with the crowbar and has it for other purposes. So when we come to, we see the cart going through, and he starts to wake up and look.
SPEAKER_18Right. Yeah, we're back in the vault now.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm. And he starts to wake up. And he is in the location where we last saw Hank testing the device. And he had most recently tested it, not on a mouse, but on someone from the VIP Plus program. And his head had exploded. So he's now here. Hank is getting people from New Vegas apparently to test. We don't know how many he's brought down here since then, but he has this guy. And so Hank is saying, How would you like to forget everything you've ever known? And this is the clip you're going to play.
SPEAKER_16You've ever known everyone you've ever known. Your language and motor skills will remain intact. Every choice you've made, every moment you've cherished will be completely and utterly removed from your memory. Please, yes.
SPEAKER_20Oh, good gracious!
SPEAKER_18Oh let's begin. So he didn't pop.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the way the scene goes is great. So Hank gives that speech.
SPEAKER_02And he's like, you know, sign me up. I'm ready. Do it.
SPEAKER_18Yes, please. He was like, yes, take away my memory.
SPEAKER_01This is it's a funny, uh, comedic scene in a way there. Just this character that we see as comic relief. He's so sad. His life has been so bad as we know. And he's lived the worst of it. And so that speech that Hank's making, which would be horrifying to us people, ever lose every moment you've cherished, forget everything you've made, be completely and utterly removed from your memory. And the way he says please, yes.
SPEAKER_18Yes, please.
SPEAKER_01That's the most honest, sad thing. I just it really affected me. So the camera pulls back during that and it goes just like it did before.
SPEAKER_02And you expect like all the other times. Yeah, it's that same slow move away. You can't see him, but all you can see is the window, and you're expecting the splat.
SPEAKER_18The blood packed uh and you yeah, there's no splat.
SPEAKER_01No splat. Just him going, oh no, no, no, no, no, no. And then he almost like enjoys it, and then it stops.
SPEAKER_02This actor's facial expressions are so perfect for all this stuff. He is just so expressive.
SPEAKER_01He really is good. Enjoyed him a lot. And so Hank chuckles a little bit. He's happy he finally had a success. And he says, Okay, let's begin. Let's get to work. So we jump over from there. And you know, poor Fisto. Like if he was powered down enough, Fisto's got his power back. Like, I mean, is he gonna have to go back on boyfriend?
SPEAKER_02Well, I'll have to keep an eye out. I don't remember if there's ever another Protectron in Hank's vault scenes. You know, so maybe Hank brought the guy back to reprogram him into something a technotronic officer could also do.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's a good that's a good chance that we might see him, and if not there, I wonder if we see him anywhere on Freeside after this, even like just in them in the background or something. Because we haven't seen too many Tektrons. Yep, back at work.
SPEAKER_18One thing I didn't mention with you. Have we seen Caravan yet?
SPEAKER_01No, not that we know of.
SPEAKER_18It's gonna show up somewhere. You know it will. There was I don't think Todd knows how to play.
SPEAKER_01Who does? There was the end scene end credit pullout last week. Oh, that's fair. That's fair. I guess we all do kind of. Somewhat. But during the end credit scene last week when they pulled out from people playing cards, they might have had caravan. We don't know what they were playing.
SPEAKER_18All the skeletons were playing caravan.
SPEAKER_01That's why they died. They're trying to figure out the rules. Took too long. But when Hank's revived in the golf car, I mentioned briefly that he was in that. When he went by part of the cryo area, it actually panned up past two tubes, two cryo vaults, like we saw in Vault 31. So we confirmed there are cryo vaults in this facility, and it said Barbara Howard, and it panned up over it, and then Janie Howard at the bottom.
SPEAKER_18Both his wife and his daughter. So we did get that confirmation.
SPEAKER_01That's confirmation they are here.
SPEAKER_18Cryo and a vault, right? Some vault.
SPEAKER_02Except the glass was completely frosted over, and so you couldn't tell if there were bodies inside.
SPEAKER_18Hello could have been there.
SPEAKER_02Could have been empty.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's tragic. And we're gonna find out what's going on as this thing goes on. But now we're heading back to the frosties. So we're just outside. We get a little shot of Vault Tech California HQ. And the frosties are going in and they're picking their way from outside into this building. And they get into the lobby, and it's overgrown and abandoned, as we know. And they're looking, there are some skeletons there who died when during the blast shortly after. And Janice is at the desk, Janice the receptionist, and one of them says, Look, there's Janice still at work. Always was a kiss ass.
SPEAKER_18Like, what a loser. Still at her desk. What a kiss ass. Like she died, stupids.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And the irony here, the irony here is like these the crew from Bud'S Buzz were like the pinnacle of Vault Tech kiss asses in this case.
SPEAKER_18Exactly. They're so kiss assy calling her a kiss ass. Hilarious.
SPEAKER_01But you know, they were junior executives and junior management.
SPEAKER_18So the worst kiss asses.
SPEAKER_01But they're exploring, ew, it's so dirty. Which it's just, it is really funny that the reality of their situation hasn't fully hit some of these people yet. Or they're just kind of it's a little surreal. I feel like Clark especially just is he's the one that makes all the the funny comments about, oh, the mall, that sort of thing. I think he's gonna do it so dirty too. Yeah. So Norm is looking and exploring, and then he goes up and he sees there's some blood next to the elevator. He touches it, and it seems semi-fresh. And then there's some banging on the door.
SPEAKER_18Big banging. I also like this comment, like where they're looking at the skeletons. It's like, ooh, one of them must have been the janitor. Like whoever was cleaning.
SPEAKER_00That's why it's so dirty, right?
SPEAKER_11This is my squat. It's our squat. They know what I mean. Did you want me to play this? Or vault to illusion? What do you mean, more vault?
SPEAKER_08Can I ask you a question?
SPEAKER_11Mm-hmm. What is making that noise in the elevator? Moat Farm. How big are they? Not big enough to mock it yet, but they're dead day.
SPEAKER_20So you met my sister?
SPEAKER_11Yeah, back in Philly, before the Brotherhood of Steel burnt it down. Had her help a fellow from the Unclave get through the shithole to some folks from the NCR who weren't in town when shady sands blew up. Pretty slim odds. I don't understand what any of that means. Oh, I'm sorry. I forget you, Vaulties, don't much care for a common event. Your sister's dead, honey. You don't know. You don't know my sister. I know the wasteland needed. I know plenty well what it does to folks as much as you, I'm gonna tell you what I told her, and for y'all's sake. I hope you listen. Go home, Vulty. No, mom. If you idiots need supplies for the trip home, help yourselves. But don't you touch my ropes for my little lot, lipships. Suddenly you're a big Samaritan, huh? Maybe shut the fuck up. I'm trying to be a better person.
SPEAKER_02So you're a big Samaritan.
SPEAKER_01I mean, she's gonna let him help themselves some of her supplies. That is pretty generous for some people in the wasteland.
SPEAKER_18She's trying to be a better person.
SPEAKER_01Especially what we know of Ma June from before. That she's willing to help, but good luck, Divchez. But that trying to be a better person. I really like that too. One thing I didn't mention, right before he touches the blood and says what's in there, and suddenly, you know, they pop up, Ma June and Barv. Clark, one of the other guys, again, says, I need to craft a weapon. That was a great line.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, I noticed that.
SPEAKER_02And he grabs a fan.
SPEAKER_18Picked up the I picked up the yeah, a desk fan. Because I mean I need to get out of this real quick.
SPEAKER_01It's the deep references, you know, it's the stuff that like that is so there for players. Like, as much as anybody watching can find it amusing, they will not get all the levels that works on.
SPEAKER_18He used to need you know, some mute fruit and purified water to whip up some some adhesive too.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm. But so yeah, so this is their squat. And yeah, we get Maud June and Barve back, which is awesome. And we'll all be more vault dwellers. And of course, Norm perks up at that because he doesn't know what happens. Sister is looking for her. And so they anyway, they ask what's making the noise. Roach farm. Ew, so this is not a thing that we've really seen in Fallout. I'm trying to remember, was there ever a roach farm?
SPEAKER_02Nothing I can think of.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like it might have been. Right.
SPEAKER_02Not roaches.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, people keep mirrorks penned, people keep another creature's penned, but I don't haven't seen anyone raid anything roaches for food. But given the situation, how bad things are out here, parts of LA, makes sense. Rad roaches are good eating for some people.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Taking them to market. They're not big enough yet. That's crazy. So then you when you get Norm and Majune talking a bit more, which I thought that was good too. So he's in there, he's having a conversation with her, and she's explaining what's going on. Norm says, So you met my sister, and she gives a whole feel about what's been happening, which we all recognize. But of course, Norm has not heard any of these words before. So she says back in Philly.
SPEAKER_18She's like, I don't know what any of those words mean.
SPEAKER_01Brotherhood of Steel, Bella from the Enclave, get through NCR. Yep. All of that. Which basically she gave us. She gave us the whole plot of season one, basically, in a nutshell, or at least half of it. So pretty slim odds, being con country. I also thought what with it being con country was revealing too, because we know the great cons, they they had moved on, and we saw them in Novak at the beginning of the season, you know, with the ghoul and Lucy there, some of them. We know that they now have some more control in that area of LA, too. So they've kind of probably gotten a little bit stronger and spread again. And assuming there was the ending where the cons survived, which seems like it, the bulk of them might have moved on to Colorado, even Wyoming or Colorado, and become even stronger. All over the place. Yeah.
SPEAKER_18Do you say we saw evidence of them in season one in Los Angeles?
SPEAKER_01I don't remember seeing evidence of the cons until this season.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and it's a it's not a long trip over the hills out to the Mojave. So I think you know, part of it is actually in LA County.
SPEAKER_01So But she's trying to be reconciliatory here, you know, just kind of console him a little bit. I love that she says, You vaultes don't care much for current events. I mean, they live under the ground. What rock have you been under? Literally the earth's crust, you know.
SPEAKER_18The one spinning around the sun.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So, you know, she knows the wasteland better and she's saying, Your sister is dead, honey. She's just trying to break it to him. I'm sorry, but she's dead. And he says, You don't know that, you don't know my sister, which he's right. He's actually right. But she thinks she does, because by all laws and averages, odds are she's dead. So, you know, go home, vaulty.
SPEAKER_18Go go go back to your in her life when she lived in Philly and she owned the shop and stuff. How many vault people do you think she had seen over her career life as a shopkeeper? We talk over her life, probably a number, but from multiple different vaults around the area and stuff, you think?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, over time. But when she says I thought all your dipshits were dead, when she sees Lucy, it had been a while at that point. Because this being a good sixteen years after New Vegas, and last game we actually had that took place specifically in that area was Fallout 1 and 2. So we don't know if any new vaults had opened. Obviously, there are some that were still there. For instance, Vault 4 that we got in the show, they were still active. I don't think people were coming and going very often, but they were somewhat active. So Yeah. But probably just a rare sight in general. At least recently. So they head out and the frosties are left to their own devices and told not to touch the roach farm. Which, yeah, that makes good sense. They probably shouldn't touch the roach farm, should they?
SPEAKER_18Like the roachers were lacking the shit out of the inside of that elevator door.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they were banging on it hard.
SPEAKER_02So which is probably why they have it so reinforced. And they're still not big enough to take to market yet.
SPEAKER_01I almost feel like that elevator door was slightly better reinforced than the gate outside the strip. Like one thing when when we see the gate that they slide under with the death clause and the strip, I I don't know that strong eventually they can hold out a death claw if they really wanted to leave.
SPEAKER_02You know, if they're just just out of chain old, you know, holding the two gates closed.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, chain, maybe a bar. Like it was it was barred. But so I have to wonder the death clause patrol on this strip. Like if they were unleashed there, came up from Cory Junction, uh, I think they were moved there by somebody. And we don't know how recently that happened. So is it possibly something that Hank triggered a week or two ago when he arrived? Something that actually they recently took over. Probably not. It seems like it's been longer than that. But we don't know exactly what or when.
SPEAKER_18Mr. House planted him there for face.
SPEAKER_01Maybe we don't even know House is alive at this point. We haven't seen him yet in the current time. But maybe, but like what would be the benefit there for him? You know what I mean? He believed in order and control. And so his robots in charge and his Securitrons would make a lot more sense for him than just Death Claws.
SPEAKER_02So Lee nailed it in chat. What do you say? How will they wrangle the roaches to get them to market? Ah. I think we just where the title came from.
SPEAKER_01Wrangle! Oh, good call. They're roach wranglers. Oh, that is a good call. Ma June and Varve are much more experienced wastelanders, so they know how to handle a roach or two. Maybe let them out only one at a time, get them captured and caged to bring to market. Not quite as dangerous. So we flash back to Lucy, and she's in Freeside right now, looking around, and she finds Sunny Sundries, but it's a really good view here. We get the we see the sign, everything. Freeside looks great. She sees Sonny Sundries there on the right, goes to look at it. Apparently the door is currently closed. Sorry, we're closed. And prices have gone up. And it's showing a dick doll was increased from 125 caps to a thousand caps. Pulls out her bags and jingles it. And uh yeah, she does definitely doesn't have a thousand caps in there.
SPEAKER_18A thousand caps would weigh so fucking much.
SPEAKER_01So she starts to wander over, like, what am I gonna do? And she's heading over towards the Wrangler, and then as she walks past the gap in between the two buildings, she notices one of the rear doors is open to this building. She's like, Well, maybe I'll go in anyway. Hey, what's up? And she walks to the door into the shop, and ooh, someone just went upstairs and it's empty. And she goes into the shop proper. And you know, she sees a number of things. The prices have just been crossed out and marked up, it looks like. But she sees the addictol, she locates it, and she just takes it. Which it's the new Lucy. She wouldn't have stolen in the past, but she's desperate right now. She needs drugs, or she needs the addict doll. She grabs that and then well while she's there, she's feeling empowered. And she sees this cool ass looking power fist that was just written up to 10,000 caps. And she grabs that too, and stuffs it in her bag. There are also so there are a few possible Astrox in here, but we did see, I believe it's a junk jet on the wall in the window.
SPEAKER_20Ooh, I didn't notice that.
SPEAKER_01I didn't see as much in this scene as we did in Maud Jean shop before, but this kind of scene is a great place for them to put things. So we saw some jars of what looked like Rad X, not Radaway, because Rade comes in pouches. There were bottles that look kind of like Rad X. There was the outline kind of silhouette of a junk jet in the window. We had, of course, the power fist. So she grabs that. And as she does.
SPEAKER_02So thanks to Google.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02So a thousand caps?
SPEAKER_18Oh no.
SPEAKER_02Would weigh 5.5 pounds.
SPEAKER_18That's more than how much does the 10 millimeter handgun weigh? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That is a lot.
SPEAKER_18It's less than I thought it would.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the practicality of caps versus weight is the thing.
SPEAKER_18Good lord. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Can you imagine actually carried around that as many caps as we do? Like 60,000, 70,000 sometimes. It's a lot of caps.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, it's a lot of caps. If I've ever gotten that high, I think you have.
SPEAKER_01And if you haven't gotten that high on that, you've gotten that high on ammo.
SPEAKER_18It's Skyrim where I'm like, yeah, I've got 1.2 million gold.
SPEAKER_01Yep. But so she grabs the a dick doll while she's there. She's like, I might as well keep on shopping with my five finger discount. She slides the power fist into a bag, but then the guy starts coming down the stairs. So she ducks behind to hide. And as she ducks, she sees a dead man in the trash can and hesitates.
SPEAKER_02And not just a dead guy folded up and dropped in. The guy was chopped up in parts and dropped in so that he'd fit easier.
SPEAKER_01He was in bad shape. Naked body too. He was naked too.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But because of her hesitation and making a noise, the guys come down. We can see him kind of walking through here. He's a large guy in a very ill-fitting outfit.
SPEAKER_02The first thing he sees is as he's walking down the stairs. And the the shoes just barely fit over his toes and make it to about his arch.
SPEAKER_01They look like flip-fluff on his feet, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And so he's walking walking down the stairs in these tiny little shoes.
SPEAKER_01And tiny little shorts, half buttoned, and tiny little shirt. But it says sunny, so obviously this is Sunny.
SPEAKER_02So And the hat barely fits on his on the side of his head. What are you doing?
SPEAKER_09I came in the wrong door. Are you Sunny?
SPEAKER_17He left town.
SPEAKER_09Okay. He's not in that trash can behind me. No.
SPEAKER_17It's the guy who tried to rob the place.
SPEAKER_09And he's naked. Did he come in here naked?
SPEAKER_17Yeah. I mean, it's not weird for someone to rob a store naked. Lots of people do it, okay?
SPEAKER_10Like, I'm just gonna be leaving now, and you're not gonna shoot me because I ghost her. Don't touch my gun. If you touch my gun, I'm gonna have to maim you. I'm sorry, I Oh, who are you? I don't know.
SPEAKER_18So she had to maim him.
SPEAKER_01Gosh, she supernamed him.
SPEAKER_18I'll have to maim you.
SPEAKER_01But the way that plays out, he's obviously not actually sunny. And she looks up and she sees the picture.
SPEAKER_02Sign, yeah, that has a picture of him.
SPEAKER_01And Sonny looks a heck of a lot like the naked guy in the trash can and not like this very large man in an outfit that obviously doesn't fit him. And he seems awful defensive. Lost people rob stores naked.
SPEAKER_02Well, so I'm wondering if he was naked when he came in.
SPEAKER_01Totally. That's totally an insinuation. Oh ran in there jingle jangle jingling. So she m goes to maim him. He falls. But she actually killed him. She goes around to see, and yeah, he's dead. This is Lucy. Lucy is on drugs, massively addicted, just stole a bunch of stuff, and now has for the first time in her life that we know of killed a person. Yeah, she killed the ghouls last week, but as she told the ghoul, they're just ghouls. So they're just ghouls. She's just kind of suddenly face to face with this. And then another customer goes to come in the door, has its wings, and they're like, Oh, who are you? And she has the line that's very on the nose, but she says she should have said, I'm Sonny. Yeah, I'm Sunny. Grab the hat real quick and the shirt, you know? Might actually fit her. Yeah. She says, I don't know. They they definitely kind of lampshaded it, like uh put a bell on it right there with the I don't know. But it's true, the wasteland has changed her, and we started to see it, but I think this is when she sees it.
SPEAKER_18She didn't take the adictal yet, right?
SPEAKER_01No. So after this, it switches from that quick scene, which by the way, I don't know how she got out there. Like, it's gonna jump. We see her next outside of the store in the street. So I'm not sure how she explained away the body or bodies or what actually happened there. Maybe she didn't. I I don't know. They don't they don't know.
SPEAKER_18She doesn't look suspicious there.
SPEAKER_01I'm sure she could easily just say, This guy was robbing the place and he killed Sonny, and that would make sense. Yeah, yeah. So I think that would be fine. But now we go back to Mr. House and Cooper having their standoffs still. And we pick up where we left off, with Cooper still on the top floor. And I just I loved the scene. I thought Mr. House was really well acted. The character really matched the characterization we've seen before in a way that previously I was a little bit worried about. If not worried, like, you know, is this really his character? But I feel here it was. So Mr. House mentions Mr. Howard, I've been following you for some time.
SPEAKER_06Not a crazed fan of one of your films. Our destinies are mathematically intertwined. Come down here. Let's you and I talk. I'm not gonna come down there. Come down here. I don't want to come down there. I was there with you in Alaska. I did license a piece of software to West Tech, which gave me access to the D45 armor you wore. So I saw what you saw. I saw the demon in the snow, and I believe that it's connected to the future of this great nation. And to your wife. And to your wife.
SPEAKER_01So I like how Cooper says, I'm not gonna come down there. Mr. House says, Come down here.
SPEAKER_18I don't want to come here. He refuses.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. So they're having this, you know, because right now, who's got the high ground? Coop has the high ground.
SPEAKER_18Literally.
SPEAKER_01Makes sense. Like, why would he come down to the belly of the beast, right?
SPEAKER_02When he's already rolling with advantage.
SPEAKER_01This is when House starts unrolling the knowledge on him that is going to entice him down. First of all, he says, I was there with you in Alaska. And not physically, of course, I'm not saying that very much. But we get the connection to West Tech there that he licensed a piece of software to West Tech, which gave him access to the armor. So back doors, Mr. House. This is how he knows everything with his algorithms and Robco, making a lot of the software things run on. The platforms things run on. He can have access to almost everything. And he does. So he saw it all. He saw the demon in the snow. And he believes the connected future of the nation and your wife. Which that line right there, okay, that is odd. My wife, and this is when Cooper Howard starts to come down. Because that's how he hooked him, was with the information about his wife. And I like how he identifies himself as an Apex competitor too. You know, there's a couple of alpha males, as it were. And he says, I'm an Apex competitor. We're the best at what we do, Cooper, as an actor in movies and house. What he does is he knows everything. He knows he's making what technology, and I acquire that technology at the most lucrative moment in its functionality. And this week he's acquiring Cold Fusion.
SPEAKER_06I know everything. This week I'm acquiring Cold Fusion from Vault Tech. From my wife. Correct. It will allow me to stay alive indefinitely and roboticize non-biological form and protect Las Vegas from the coming nuclear war initiated by my wife. Unclear.
SPEAKER_18By Vault Tech, then. No attempt then. So it's not his wife.
SPEAKER_01I love that. Because it undermines some of these fan theories, which we knew were jumping to conclusions. You know, people jumped to conclusions when Barb said last season, drop the bomb ourselves. Like, oh my god, they just said Voltec did it. No. We know Vault Tech could, or Voltec suggested that they might, but it doesn't show that they actually did. So here, Cooper is also going along with the idea that my wife had something to do with this. And Robert House's I don't know. Unclear. So again, his data doesn't say who dropped the bomb. But Cooper says by Voltec then, and Mr. House doubts that. So I'm glad they undermined that theory right away. We d thought that it was China, possibly. But maybe it was the US. And we don't know who did first. It's always been fan theories. Then Voltec, oh my God, was it Voltec? Mr. House says, no, I don't think so. But that could mean two things. First of all, if it was unclear if it's Cooper's wife, was it but it wasn't Voltec. Was it Cooper's wife under the influence of somebody else? Who knows? So Cooper says, You said you knew everything. And Mr. House then explains deeper that he does mathematical paradigms based on conditions, predict future events. And they but it doesn't have all the data. But one spring morning, the data coalesced and it told him, in no uncertain terms, that the world would end. And of course, Cooper says a calculator told you that, which I love the contrast of Coop's practicality to Mr. House's flights of fancy here. Logical flights of fancy, but still. And he says the date of the world might not interest you, but the date the data coalesced might. April 14th, 2065, at 517 AM. Is that date of any interest to you? Cooper, taken aback. That's my daughter's birthday. Robert House says, Vexingly curious, isn't it?
SPEAKER_06Vault Tech is a collision of bureaucrats. Your wife, though, I don't know. You said you knew everything. I routinely design and run mathematical paradigms based on global political and socioeconomic conditions in an effort to predict future events. And one spring morning, the data coalesced, and it told me the world would end. Calculator told you that. The date of the end of the world may not interest you, but the date the data coalesced might. April 14th, 2065, at 5 17 a.m. It's my daughter's birthday. That is vexingly curious, isn't it? Vexingly curious.
SPEAKER_01Vexingly. Do you want to jump right into the next sound clip, Andrew?
SPEAKER_06You were not meant to come to Vegas this weekend. Your wife Barbara was meant to come alone. The moment that you bought your ticket to Las Vegas, the date the world was going to end jumped forward by one month. What are you, a fortune teller now? I'm a mathematician, a roboticist and a casino owner. And I don't know yet how you figure into all of this, but you most certainly do. And I don't like unknown variables.
SPEAKER_03You know the person who wanted me to kill you. They think that you are gonna end things by selling Voltec the weapons it needs.
SPEAKER_06No, the bombs will not be dropped by me or any of the idiots at that meeting. Or any of the idiots at that meeting.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, those unknown variables are very irksome.
SPEAKER_01I really like that about him. Again, showing that he wants to know everything, have his fingers in everything, be a bit of a puppet master, as it were, or at least the person, you know, behind the scenes that knows everything. So that unknown variable is irksome. But Cooper, by the way, never denied that he was there to kill Mr. House. So Mr. House said you're here to kill me, and Cooper didn't deny it. And now here he says the person who wanted me to kill you, they think you're going to end things by selling Vault Tech the weapons it needs. So selling Vault Tech the bombs. But Robert House says no. The bombs won't be dropped by me or any of the idiots at that meeting. You know, so he doesn't think it's Vault Tech, doesn't think it's West Tech, doesn't think it's uh anybody else there, big MT or himself, right? Robco. Yeah. No, it's somebody else. There's another player at the table, an unknown entity, the one responsible for your demon in the snow. Which he uses that turn of phrase a couple times here, and it was the title of last episode. So well done. They're not called death clause yet. We don't know what they are, but this is where it's kind of confirmed they were made by an unknown third party, which as we know, it was the Enclave and the US government, a part of the US government working on creating death clause, but a separate, more shady section that House doesn't have information on, which as we are gonna learn is enclave related. And that also confirms that if the death clause were being tested and rolled out there in Alaska, it wasn't a known thing, or else Mr. House would have heard about them ahead. So it was an illicit or an unsanctioned test, I would think. So they go on, they talk further. It's the whole thing.
SPEAKER_06Another player at the table, the same unknown entity responsible for your demon in the snow. I live my life by one simple maxim. The house always wins, right? I'm making sure of it using every single piece of technology at my disposal. I would encourage you to gaze inward to your small life. Spending your days pretending to be a cowboy while your wife is making apocalyptic proposals at board meetings, and I'm building a missile system to defend this glorious city from what's coming. But from whom? Who ends the world? Spending your days pretending to be a cowboy. I don't think you're the cowboy at all.
SPEAKER_00That escalated quickly.
SPEAKER_01I don't think you're a cowboy at all. This is where the scene really changes here. So we've had House being cold, logical, mathematical, apex predator to apex predator in in their respective things. But as it goes on, and Cooper is maybe starting to question him a bit, Mr. House doesn't like being questioned. And so this is when he says, No, I'm building a missile system to protect us. But he's putting on this helmet here with the diodes, electrics, and you know, hooking his mind into his computer system to kind of see and get more information. And of course, he looks crazy. Like a whack dub. Yeah. Which is why Cooper says, What if you're just a frickin' lunatic? And if that just that triggers house bad. And so that's when he starts to rant a little bit. Gaze inward to your small small life, pretending to be a cowboy while your wife is doing this and I'm building this. And but from whom? That's the question. From whom? Who ends the world? Is it you? What if it is you? Like that whole thing is so intense. And everything, as Cooper starts to walk away and back away from this whole situation in the elevator, it just hits him. You know what I mean? Like he was here to kill a man doing all this. He has learned things, he has to deal with facts, he has no idea how to rationalize them about the end of the world is definitely coming. That his wife or daughter has something to do with it, their date, there's an unknown player. This man's a lunatic, so he's taking a big old swig from his flask.
SPEAKER_18And like how they were doing the flash in between the silhouettes to intro the scene, they also were doing that in the elevator again on the way out, too.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_18Yeah. Because he's still drinking at the bar, right? Is that where the ghoul is in the future?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_18We're still at the bar, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So the ghoul is drinking there, and we get the kind of flash back and forth between them as they're going through. And then we get a montage scene. Is this where the montage scene happens, I think?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, where he's riding the rocket and drinking every, you know, boo every booze he can get, you know, off the trays. This some guy raises a glass to him as he's walking by and Cooper grabs it and slugs it down.
SPEAKER_01It was a hard scene to watch. It was very much he's just dealing with too much right now. Learning this about his wife, learning about what's happening, the whole reason he's there. Like he's a guy, he's an actor. He's an actor and a veteran, suddenly finds himself at the center of a global conspiracy. And he it's just it's a lot, especially with his wife involved. And it's a very self-destructive thing. But I mean, I assume we've all been there once twice in our lives. But this was hard for me to watch. It's hard for me to watch Coop abuse himself like that. And situation just drinking himself into a stupor and falling off the bull. Although, to be fair, you can't ride those mechanical bulls very long, even if you're not too drunk. Like those things are hard. You ever tried one? They're hard.
SPEAKER_18I think eight seconds is a is a record in in bull riding. So yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, at least real bull riding, yeah, exactly. And the mechanical bulls are pretty darn hard. But yeah, so he falls down and blacks out there. And flash forward to the goal drunk at the inn. And then we go back and we are with the frosties now. So the frosties are now deeper into the Vault Tech building. So they're making decisions and they're getting upstairs, and Ronnie says, All right, calm's a room. Clark, Pete with me. Clark and Pete are the two that we know. Clark and Peak were the ones that we saw with Hank in in the past flashbacks, they were the ones there. And then they're the ones to talk more to in the group. Ronnie's checking the the phone, or I don't know if it's a phone, but whatever, telecoms, communication radio system, says it's dead. Norm asks who they were hoping to contact. And of course Ronnie says, the investors. But he gives him a look when he says, Who are you hoping to contact? Like you should know. And I feel like this is where if Ronnie was a teeny bit suspicious of Norm before, and like, does he really know what he's talking about here? And when he was testing him outside last week, they're kind of a little bit a little bit of chest thumping. Well, I was Bud's personal assistant. Norm asking who you're hoping to contact makes Ronnie say, Hmm, I'm suspicious of this guy. And then Norm sees Claudia in the other room, you know, just kind of looking, staring at his face, maybe crying a little bit. And so goes over to check in on her while the others are trying to make contact and do whatever they're doing here. And so of course Norm being human asked if she's okay. And Claudia admits you would have thought it would have hit me all at once, but no. If my parents survived the bombs, they'd be gone by now. Same with my friends. Even my cat. You want to play that clip? My cat.
SPEAKER_20Your cat have a name.
SPEAKER_13His name was Puppy. Puppy the cat. It's funny, huh? I mean, not right now, I guess.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_18I mean not right now, but I guess.
SPEAKER_01Norm's so good. Norm's so yeah, I really like him. But the way she says funny, huh? Yeah, it is it is funny. But Norm recognizes her, her humanity and sensitivity all that at this moment. And he says, you don't strike me as the kind of person who would sign up for this kind of program, right? And did you know going in about future enterprise ventures? So Norm is both consoling her and being like, you don't seem very vault tech, air quotes, in a way. And but he's still asking also about future enterprise ventures, because now he's wondering, do you know anything about it? And she says, No, I just started the job a week ago. But everything they talked about sounded kind of nutty to me. And Norm's trying to get info from her. Do you remember what they said? You know if it had anything to do with the vault. And she says no. But there was this executive, Bud's boss. Her name was Barbara Howard. She was in charge of all the vault proposals, which makes sense because at the meeting, when she was there talking, she said, you guys can have your vaults and run your experiments. So she's in charge of the different proposals and programs and experiments at the vault, basically saying if they were allowed or not. Or honestly, probably processing more than choosing they're allowed. Because I do think as bad as Barb has maybe showing herself to be with what she's done, and we're gonna learn more, of course. I don't think she would approve half of these experiments, you know, if she had to.
SPEAKER_18If she actually dug into them.
SPEAKER_01Right, unless she had to. I have a feeling they're volume.
SPEAKER_18One of her underlings was just like yeah, rubber stamp and everything.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. So they go up to they make their way upstairs to Barb's office, which a little bit of a different setup than what we saw last week when or last year at the end of the episode when Coop was in it listening, but it might just be a different perspective. And they're at her desk and she he's typing in it, it's locked, so he gets in and he hacks it. And as he has to do all this stuff to get access and hack it, Claudia suggests you're not actually Bud's successor, are you? She's kind of realized what's going on here. And Norm, seeing that his cover might be a little blown, asks how you know. And she says, 'cause you're not absolutely nuts. But and that, you know that you want one? Yeah, that strikes him as kind of funny as well. Because, you know, thank you, that is a compliment. But and Claudia mentions the rest of them are nuts. They bet their whole lives on Bud Askins and this plan. And I think, you know, there's no telling what they do if they found out that you were interfering or took that from them. And so she asked, you know, if he wants a drink, because she needs one. And Norm says he's never actually had one. Apparently the vault didn't make its own alcohol, which so it makes sense that they'd be out of stores of alcohol, maybe. Like of all the things got us packed for survival, there might not be that many drinks at this point.
SPEAKER_02Uh well, but he was also just a kid.
SPEAKER_01That's true. He was yeah, he was younger, right? He's supposed to be younger than Lucy here, I assume.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. We don't know how old he is. Like in reality, I think the actor is late twenties. I think he's actually a year or two older than Ella, but yeah, he I think he's playing 2021 or so at most.
SPEAKER_18But uh someone made a still down there. Come on.
SPEAKER_01Well, they they were growing corn, right? So he could definitely make alcohol from corn. But yeah, so it might be his age then, if anything, who knows? But meanwhile we see Ronnie has been listening and hears some of this that he's not actually Bud's successor. And he hears Claudia say about you know the people and their weird plan. And he's thinking. So we're gonna be switched back to norm. He's on the computer and he's searching future enterprise ventures. Nothing comes up. Okay, he thinks about Vault Tech and Acronym Scene Types FEV.
SPEAKER_02So it comes up as a related search.
SPEAKER_01Oh, related search FEV, okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So then he selects that, of course, because it makes sense. And that's when he gets forced evolutionary virus, and there's a whole description about what it is with West Tech and their experiments.
SPEAKER_18I I tried so hard to pull like a sound clip out of that, but it would have just been like dramatic typing. Dramatic typing. Dramatic typing.
SPEAKER_01Dramatic staring, tense music, yeah, a lot of that. And then some grunting and gasping when they start to wrestle.
SPEAKER_19Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because Ronnie says, You lied to us, and he has grabbed a cord, and he starts to wrestle with Norm and they're fighting, and but then Ronnie gets him turned around and gets the cord around his neck and starts to strangle him until he is actually passed out. So we don't think he strangled him to death. Strangled to death.
SPEAKER_02Because he gasps.
SPEAKER_01Right. But he is choked out and passes out.
SPEAKER_18You see that happen all the time in movies and shows, but so rarely in real life. Like that's probably a lot harder to do than it looks in.
SPEAKER_01Choking somebody out?
SPEAKER_18Choke somebody out.
SPEAKER_01You see it in wrestling too, right?
SPEAKER_18But yeah, yeah, yeah. But uh that might not be real.
SPEAKER_01I feel like there's a lot of these things in stories that are dramatized just for plot conventions we don't see that much. Like quicksand.
SPEAKER_18Like as a right, everywhere in the 40s and 50s, right?
SPEAKER_01Every adventure movie had when I was younger, I totally thought quicksand was a real danger, and I got worried about it walking out in the woods sometimes.
SPEAKER_18Thought you were gonna cross it, yeah, exactly. Going out in the woods, go ahead and be king covers.
SPEAKER_02So you know, we definitely had to contend with quicksand when I was growing up. Yeah. The the river the river that the that river side is is built on has a lot of it flows underground, but where there is water above ground, there's a lot of quicksand.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_02I can vouch that it's a serious thing.
SPEAKER_01Northerners don't have to worry about it.
SPEAKER_18Ray grew up as Tarzan, you guys. I didn't realize.
SPEAKER_01What happens in those movies too. Awesome. But yeah, choking people out. I mean, I assume you stop the blood of the carotid artery, they would pass out for a bit, right? It's not saying about the windpipe and air, it's more about the blood momentarily, so they black out, I think.
SPEAKER_18But you got time it so perfectly, or else you will kill them.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, which happens. Maybe that's the difference in real life too, is that half people would be choked out, maybe die.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well, and then the other thing is silencers. So silencers in real life only keep guns from giving you hearing loss.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they only silence so much.
SPEAKER_18Oh, you mean in movies how it makes it go, you know, you don't hear that at all? Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, uh a suppressor in real life takes it from like 180 decibels down to just over a hundred.
SPEAKER_01Like a car.
SPEAKER_18Something to still hear from blocks away. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You can hear when someone turns the car on, even with the muffler. But it's just much louder without.
SPEAKER_18I don't know. Have you ever been walking to the grocery store when an electric car creeps up on you? How much die?
SPEAKER_01They are so quiet. Electric cars at stop lights. So quiet. Creepy. I assume you guys have probably have you driven electric cars? Or do you have like cars that have the electricity?
SPEAKER_18I did a hybrid. I drew a Prius move.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I have my Blender's a hybrid.
SPEAKER_01Oh wow. It just feels funky when they when they come to a stop and totally stop.
SPEAKER_02Nobody doesn't know I'm there though. Because the stereo works really good.
SPEAKER_01Banging out those bass beats listening to your hip hop.
SPEAKER_20Yeah. That's what I'm listening to for sure.
SPEAKER_01Hey, I got a new bell for my bike. They know I'm coming too. Bling bling.
SPEAKER_18On your right. Bling bling.
SPEAKER_01She picked up a bell yesterday. Got one. Put an air tag in. So if you're if you're a listener, there's an air tag in my bell. Don't steal my bike.
SPEAKER_18Ooh, she knows.
SPEAKER_01Oh no, you know the truth. So we jump back over to Lucy right now and back at Adam Freeside. So she's kind of staggering out, just kind of mentally absorbing everything that just happened. What's going on? And she realizes, okay, wait, I am feeling the drugs. I am still feeling like I do. And so she takes the addictol and immediately, like, is anything happening? Well it's working, and then bam, just starts barfing all over the street.
SPEAKER_02It's just hilarious how they just it's definitely movie barf because it just doesn't stop. It's like there's no way her stomach is that big. There's not enough space in her body.
SPEAKER_01It's like you're vomiting out all the badness. It's almost more like an exorcism spell, like in a fantasy movie. Like when you you've got evil and you're barfing out all the evil, you're barfing out all the drugs.
SPEAKER_18It's totally exorcist barf. You're right.
SPEAKER_02It was so funny.
SPEAKER_01And a couple people on you know her left, like they look at her, possibly a little concerned or just like curious. But the majority of people just walking by thinking about their day, like it just had this kind of thing that happens.
SPEAKER_18Is a dictol always a puffer? I was like, ooh, is she doing jet? And then I was like, oh wait, no, that was a dictol because she's flushing everything out. But I was like, wait a second. Wait, what does a dictol look like? And I couldn't remember. It is an inhaler too? Okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm pretty sure that in the game it's an inhaler.
SPEAKER_18Like, I couldn't remember what it looked like.
SPEAKER_01So she's puking and recovering, and then she makes her way into the Wrangler. And again, they are at the atomic Wrangler where this scene is set, and that's where their room is, too. So she goes upstairs and walks in the room, and the ghoul, he's been drinking, he's a little drunk in the chair, beat up waiting for her. And she says, I think we can say I am officially done with uh and then she starts to get sick again. So the ghoul sends her to the window, and she does, and she feaks out the window more. Someone's like, Watch out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And in the closed captions, it's bystander.
SPEAKER_01Oh, splash damage, like being at a Gallagher show again.
SPEAKER_18Oh, gross.
SPEAKER_01The ghoul's just watching out for her and he feels bad. So he goes up and grabs her hair like you do, and you know, I feel unfortunate.
SPEAKER_18Oh, did he hold her hair back? I didn't notice that. That's a thing.
SPEAKER_01I think he does, or at least helps her up and lean helps support her a little bit. And Ghoul says, You done?
SPEAKER_18Oh, he is a he is a good friend, you know. Yes, gets her a chair.
SPEAKER_01Yep. And she says, Thanks. And the ghoul sighs, least I can do, considering. And of course, we're like considering considering what? And dun dun dun someone clears their throat. And Lucy says, Who's that? Now, I know you've got some of the scene recorded. Do you have this whole thing?
SPEAKER_18Yeah, I got a whole minute and a half of this. Yeah, I got a little.
SPEAKER_01So let's start playing. This is when we realize it is the snake oil salesman, the chicken curry.
SPEAKER_05Mr. McLean is very impressed that you followed him this far, but he's quite secure in an underground facility. There's no reaching him from here, not without his explicit invitation.
SPEAKER_09You're gonna walk right back out of here and leave us to my father.
SPEAKER_05Unfortunately, I don't have permission. Mr. McLean is watching over this gentleman's wife and daughter. They are quite peacefully resting in states. Mr. McLean. That's number 5.
SPEAKER_08Whatever it is.
SPEAKER_05However, Mr. McLean is willing to make a deal. One family's safety for Mr. McLean will leave your wife and daughter. If you bring his daughter back.
SPEAKER_09Do you accept it? Considering that.
SPEAKER_05Wonderful! I'll inform management that you've made an agreeable decision.
SPEAKER_03Good afternoon. Take a nap. When you wake up, you'll be home. Couldn't be helped. Family's a fucked up thing.
SPEAKER_18What take a nap. When you wake up, we'll be home. Was he gonna drug her for like a week? How long does it take to walk to fucking Los Angeles dragging a person who's unconscious with you?
SPEAKER_02Good lord. Yeah. Well, he darted her, so.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's a in my mind, it's a bit of an exaggeration because like you said, Ray, they're not that far from LA between the Mojave here. But I mean, we felt it was gotta be at least, even if you're hard traveling, a week or so, right?
SPEAKER_02It's a four-hour car ride at you know 75 to 80 miles an hour. Right.
SPEAKER_01So it's more like a week or two, at least, probably on foot.
SPEAKER_20Oh, but yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so he'll keep her drugged more than not. But that whole situation, I just want to highlight the acting here, like this situation. So, first we have the salesman, and he's been cleaned up. He is looking a little more clean cut.
SPEAKER_02I mean, he's still short, short, nicely done hair, right?
SPEAKER_01He's been living the hard life still, but suddenly he's been relieved of the burdens weighing him down.
SPEAKER_18Do they flash and show if he has a little mind control thing on his neck? Okay.
SPEAKER_01You actually see that on the back of his neck that it's working. But he's all clean cut. And so he outlines the deal that uh that the ghoul will bring Lucy back to her home. You know, that Mr. McLean wants to let you know that he is impressed at everything you've done and all the work to get here. But we have and he doesn't outline that the deal will be for the ghoul to get his wife and daughter, but he does kind of threaten that your wife and daughter are here or now. Yes. They are here in stasis and they could be untimely awoken, which might not be good for them. The ghoul has agreed to take you back to the vault and to help ensure their safety. Now, obviously from there, now that that's confirmed, the vault the ghoul is gonna come back. And maybe there's an an implied thing that Hank has said through this messenger that the ghoul will be able to see or get to his family. We don't know about that, but at least we know that now they are currently threatening them. And in order to ensure the safety, Cooper needs to bring him back. Bring her back.
SPEAKER_02And of course, Lucy, like I said, the acting here, like you know, the expressiveness of the snake oil salesman is just classic. Yeah, he is classic and expressive, creepy smiles, you know, just really weird looking.
SPEAKER_01And Lucy's absorbing this, and she's like, We're not gonna do this, right? It's kind of like the meme there with Anakin. Like you're blah blah blah, right? And Anakin just looks at her. But in this case, the ghoul is also emotional. She's like, We're gonna fight this. And the ghoul says, No. Lucy, I brought you here to bargain with. Like this is real. The entire reason the ghoul allowed her to travel with him is that she could be useful. But initially, I think most of that was if she doesn't lead me to the father, help me get inside in finding him, I'll have her to bargain with should the time come. Trade her for whatever is needed. Now, it wasn't necessarily what he was gonna do, but he brought her here to bargain with whatever capacity was needed, and this is the bargain, like he says. This is what I've been offered, this is what I have to do. But Lucy's hurt because he's they were actually being to get along. And she says they thought they were. But and the goal was like you can tell this is hard on the goal to do, but family is a heff'd up thing. You know, I just thought this was just really well written, well done. He tranks Lucy and she starts to pass out, and the snake oil salesman says, I'll inform management you've made an agreeable decision. And so he is turning around to leave and goes out. And then Cooper is just while Lucy's on the ground and he's starting to absorb and think, and he goes over by the window. And Lucy should have been fully knocked out by the tank, you would think, but she wasn't. Struggle down, she's still awake, and she struggles back up.
SPEAKER_18Hadn't taken effect yet.
SPEAKER_02Well, but also her body was flooded with a dick doll.
SPEAKER_01Oh, right.
SPEAKER_18It's still flushing. There you go. That makes sense.
SPEAKER_01I think that's why it probably didn't work all the way, right? Because she's been puking it out and just was counteracting the effects of it.
SPEAKER_18Totally makes sense, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So she struggles to her feet while the ghoul is lost in thought, feeling bad about what he did, thinking about the future, thinking about everything he's been through. And she grabs her new power.
SPEAKER_02And and flashing back.
SPEAKER_18Oh, to the rocket thing, right?
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02This is where he fell off and he's laying on the ground.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we get the rest of that scene there.
SPEAKER_18His wife comes up with the we need to talk.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that she looks just upset and caring about him, brings him to the bed, sponging his face. And I mean, this is the woman he loves. And so, yeah, we see Cooper here, waking up in bed, and you know, she is there caring for him and concerned. Like, this is not your usual behavior. I mean, Cooper probably likes to party some, and maybe occasionally does this sort of thing, but not like this.
SPEAKER_18He wouldn't get sloppy in public, probably, at a company event under which he is the mascot for and that's when he says, we need to talk.
SPEAKER_01Because Cooper realizes he can't keep the secret anymore. As far as time in the show, in the flashback that he's known, it's been no more than a week since that meeting. Because at the beginning of this season, the early episode, it actually picks up right where I left off after the meeting, and he rushes home and grabs Janie and be like, We've got it. I'm gonna take you up to uh Bakersfield and all that, and then they're stopped by the test and he sees the sign and goes back. And then he starts to okay, so I'm not gonna do that. And that's when he meets with, you know, Moldaver and they have that, but it's been maybe a week because it was the next week that she said she was gonna go up to this meeting and he wanted to come along. So he's been keeping these secrets from her for a good week, and it's tearing him up. So he's gonna tell her everything now because he loves her, he doesn't know what the heck's going on and needs to share.
SPEAKER_02So Yeah, and he some of this also happens after he's been knocked out the window.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, punched onto the Yeah, that's where we get the rest.
SPEAKER_01And so Lucy essentially she struggles up, she puts on her power fist, and she is just angry and upset and feeling betrayed. And she punches the ghoul with the power fist. I don't know how strong it is, and it knocks him through the window, falls, and she leans out and he gets impaled on a pole.
SPEAKER_02Like so she puts it on and then it you know, it's like racking a shotgun. She chunk chunk with the power fist, and that spins Cooper around just in time to get nailed with it. And so that's why he goes out the window backwards.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's just really well. And it was choreographed. I mean, again, I'm not gonna say she intended to hurt hurt him or not. In the moment she did, because she felt betrayed. I don't think she intended to impale him on a flagpole, but she's just reacting. She's drugged out of her mind again. She's on the addictol, she's feeling that, and then she's got the tank. She can barely think right now. So after she punches him, she sees what happens and she slumps to the ground and falls to the ground. And then we get the ghoul on the pole, and yeah, that's when that finishes for him. And then we get it finishing for Lucy. And this is where Lucy's on the ground, barely conscious, and we see feet walk up, similar to when they walked up on the Sneakle salesman earlier, and it's her dad, Hank, and he leans over.
SPEAKER_18And sugar bomb.
SPEAKER_01A sugar bomb. That's the end of the episode. So that's why I said they're mega cliffhangers. Because we've got three. We've got Norm choked out, possibly dead or being captured by people. We've got the ghoul bleeding out on a pole, and we've got Lucy captured by her father. So it's pretty intense. Then we get to the act, the outro credits. So the music comes up, it's you always hurt the ones you love, which is so perfect for family. It's an effed up thing, and everything going here. You always hurt the ones you love by the Mills brothers. And the camera pulls out, you get Deathclaw eggs inside the Gomorrah, which we've seen before. House of Lucky 38, into the Lucky 38, through some halls, and it ends looking at a life support sarcophagus inside the Lucky 38 penthouse with a limp, withered arm. So we're kind of seeing Mr. House's sarcophagus that we recognize from the games.
SPEAKER_18Wow. That's pretty sweet.
SPEAKER_01I thought it was great. Discussing music real quick in this one. A couple of songs. Rags the Rich by Tony Bennett was played. That's not in the games, but that was during the flashback of Cooper Howard in pre-war Las Vegas. We had Luck be a Lady, which is that in the New Vegas soundtrack? I feel like Luck be a lady has to be played in one of the games, but I don't know that it is. Yeah, I'm not sure. But it was perfect for Dean Martin.
SPEAKER_18Who is that?
SPEAKER_01That is Robert Alda, is the performance.
SPEAKER_18Wow, that sounds like a Sinatra or Dean Martin or something.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I wonder if it's maybe he's the writer. I don't know. That's what I have written down in the notes when I looked it up. And then we have You Always Hurt The Ones You Love by the Mills Brothers. There were two other songs I found listed that I didn't recognize. There was one called Duck Soup.
SPEAKER_18And Marks Brothers thing?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. Duck Soup and Hands May by The Workers Symphony. So I again, these are songs that don't. I have a feeling, yeah. Had to be background music or incidental symphony music, maybe. For the Hans one. But the three big songs were Rags Rich's Lucky Be a Lady, always hurt the ones you love. This is a pretty major episode. I definitely I found the scene between House and Cooper to be kind of just really powerful. That's kind of what a lot of things have been leading up to for the show. I really like seeing Freeside. I thought Freeside was really well done. The characters, the famous locations, even if they were placed differently, just like in the strip itself. You know, you don't have the the Wrangler and a few of the other places. Yeah, there were belongs, but like the Kings, you do see the Kings, but it's only like what, like three buildings from the strip entrance instead of two, three blocks like it should be. A few things like that.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, there should be three load screens in there. Come on.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but I enjoyed seeing all of that. The the guy with the beat me up for caps sign, that was really funny too. Just like more crazier we got them MPCs, but I liked it better here because here it's like that kind of crazy MPC mixed in with regular people. Yeah. And I I mentioned the Golden Globes, you know, Corinne Studio there. Let's see. Death Clause and Quarry Junction. We got that. I'm just looking for other references. Might not have mentioned. Yeah, oh just how good Fisto looked. Let's be real. Like that was that not a perfect Protectron.
SPEAKER_18And it looks like a New Vegas Protectron, not a Fallout 4.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_18Hairy New Vegas.
SPEAKER_01I was like, wow. Fallout 3 New Vegas had that like this sloping front and all that. There's also there was a billboard for Hoover Dam behind. So when you got the little the taco stand.
SPEAKER_20Oh, that's cool.
SPEAKER_01And the other things, there's a billboard in the background, and it's a Hoover Dam backboard. And on it, it has When was that built? So Hoover Dam was definitely built pre-war. One assumes on the timeline it was probably similar time when it was built for us, right? So long before the Great War.
SPEAKER_18I don't even know when we built it.
SPEAKER_01Neither do I. I were to guess. I mean, I would say probably 40s or 50s, right?
SPEAKER_18I assume all of those, yeah, projects like that took place around them.
SPEAKER_01But it has the spray paint on it with property of the NCR on it, just like in the game, which is one of the big loading screens that you see on from the main menu when it's doing the loading screens there. I mentioned Vault 21 and the reference to the pre-war hotel. That is done a little bit differently, you know, because again, it wasn't a hotel till after. But you gotta wonder if it's simply a nod to the fact it was there or a similar location. Outside of that.
SPEAKER_02It was built between 31 and 36. Oh wow, way earlier than I thought.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I would have thought it was after the Second World War, not before.
SPEAKER_02Great. Holy cow. Yeah, it was a depression program.
SPEAKER_01And I did mention the 2065 Deep Cut. So again, when Cooper mentions mathematical models, it he says 5.17 a.m. But in Brook and Steel, you can talk to Margot, the Metro AI under the White House. And Margot came online at 5.20 a.m. that same day. So just three minutes later. So again, there might be a connection between, you know, the birth of his daughter and Barb and the Enclave bringing some of their defense systems online. But maybe completely unrelated to his daughter's birth, too. And it may be actually related to the Enclave machinery here that was brought up. I didn't see any other references. When I was looking up, so I was looking up other people's thoughts' references, and some people mentioned they felt that Cooper and Lucy was a Lord of the Rings tribute there. The way Lucy and the ghoul hide behind the car with the death claw that was exactly shot, like Frodo and Samwise Gamgee hiding from the Nazgul, that it looked like that, with the way it was framed and stuff. Might have been, but I don't know.
SPEAKER_18I did not gather that. Did not come to mind.
SPEAKER_01That was pretty much it. Any other thoughts on the episode, you guys?
SPEAKER_18One thing I have noticed, not just specifically about this episode, but about the last few episodes, is I'm just sort of seeing the pattern of how they like to shape the scenes in the episode as the season has gone along. It's like they'll start with a couple of big long scenes and then they start, the scenes get shorter, shorter. By the end of the episode, the last scene is always two different sets flashing back like back and forth between each other very quickly.
SPEAKER_00Right, they do that a lot.
SPEAKER_18That has happened the last three episodes, I think. I was gonna try to pay attention to see if they keep doing that same sort of like it's almost like in a video game when you have the timer going and it starts going faster and faster, faster, faster, faster, faster. So it's like the tension builds literally that way, but they're doing it by scene cuts instead of like a beep. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01You're right. They use it as a way to build tension, and they've done it a number of times, which it makes sense because I think it's showing how you know the past and present are interconnected and what we've done in the past. Things come full circle the way things are connected. I think it builds tension, like you're saying, definitely with the increasing beats and pace. Yeah. And I let's watch for that because I do obviously we've seen the whole season. I think it definitely is used again towards the end quite a bit.
SPEAKER_18I just like that flashing back for forth too when he was drinking in the elevator and it like forward a flashback of the same his head in the same position and stuff was was neat. I like that.
SPEAKER_01And the death clause scenes were badass, no doubt.
SPEAKER_18I like the way they look. It's cool.
SPEAKER_01Yep. And if I had to guess, I would think that the Death Claws came in and invaded New Vegas because of something that the Enclave group did. Either something that Hank triggered himself when he got there, and so they'd only been there for a few weeks at most, or ahead of time. But I don't know who else would have the ability to lure those death claws up there unless it was random, and I doubt it was random. I feel like they were trying to keep them away from something, and I feel like if it was Hank he was Hank's double aging for the enclave under Vault Tech. Yeah, yep. Or like we've said for Mr. House in present time. Again, we don't know who's reporting to, but we're gonna find out soon enough. So yeah, this might be my second favorite episode this season. If last episode was my favorite, this is maybe my second favorite. Mostly just because I really like seeing the pieces come together. What'd you say, Andrew?
SPEAKER_18From the toilet?
SPEAKER_01That was so good. So good. Well, thank you.
SPEAKER_18Come down here. No, I don't want to come down there. So good, so good. All right. Yep.
